There is a strong, nausea-causing smell of gasoline in and around the car. A mechanic found all fuel lines were okay, and blamed the smell on the container of Wet Wipes in the car, saying the smell is a result of a chemical reaction when the Wet Wipes get hot in the the car. No way!! The smell is ever present, and so strong that it makes me nauseous and dizzy. I am afraid to drive it for fear of it catching on fire or blowing up. I have an appointment with the Honda dealer on Nov. 30, 2021.

I was referred to an article about this problem with 2016 Honda CRV’s and it appears that this is a well known problem with this car. I do not believe I should have to pay to fix the problem. I am a woman and will probably be taken to the cleaners as so often is the case.

The sales people at the dealership were super nice when we were buying it. Cold weather came and the gas fumes smell was overwhelming. Took it back to them more than once. They haven't been so nice now that we have a legitimate problem and need them to find a solution. Tried to tell us there was no smell the first time. Then admitted there "might be a slight smell" (it is way more than slight).

Two years later we can't afford to replace it and the gas smell has reached a point it makes my wife sick to drive/ride in it for any period of time. People remark about the smell when they ride with us, and you can even smell it outside the vehicle (again, many remarks from other people). There is NO WAY they do not know about this problem, a short internet search pulled it up pretty quickly. We need a solution or a different vehicle. We can't even leave town in it without concern of getting sick. HELP!

Gas fumes in passenger cabin in 2016 Honda CR-V. Go to this website to file a complaint to get (hopefully) a recall on this issue. https://www.safercar.gov/

Horrible gas smell in passenger cabin after car has been driven for several miles and stopped and restarted or it idles for a few minutes. Happens on a regular basis.

We purchased a new 2016 Honda CR-V in August of 2016. Within a month we had the gas fume smell in the cabin. This happens after the car idles for a bit and then sticks with you while you drive. It does not happen every time you drive the car but enough that it is clearly a problem with the the car. Just took car into dealer for maintenance and told them of the problem. We will see what they say. But from the other reports here I have a feeling it will take a lawsuit to get this fixed.

In November of 2016 we bought another Honda CRV. We are big Honda fans.... BUT I'm terribly disappointed in this one. :( Our CRV's cabin fills with raw gas fumes on a pretty regular basis. There's no rhyme or reason for this and there's apparently no fix. My dealer WAS able to replicate the problem and they did a survey with Honda over the phone. Honda is sending a diagnostic piece for me to plug into my car to help resolve the problem.

This is terribly frustrating. I have 2 young children and we're in the car often. I absolutely CANNOT have this problem. Unacceptable, Honda

In Jan. of 2016 we purchased a 2016 Honda CRV. During the first 2 months of ownership my husband and I experienced gas fumes in the cabin of the vehicle several times while driving and idling. At first we thought it was from the vehicle in front of us or maybe a gas puddle we drove over because after all.... "we have a brand new Honda CRV that would not do this". We then finally realized it was our CRV causing the very bad, take your breath away gas fumes. We took it in for service at the dealership we purchased it from. FYI: We never fill past the first "click off" at the pump. Our garage never smells of gas.

After safety checks as advised from the Honda tech center we were given the vehicle back and told it could be the "new car" smell or "out gassing" from the materials used inside the car. Our service person said to "drive, drive, drive it till it goes away". We were very confused at this point because we know what gas smells like but did it. After the 3rd ,4th, and 5th trips to the service dept. (2 different ones) we were told our CRV had no safety issues and because the fumes are intermittent there was nothing they could do for us. At the Honda service centers, we were also repeatedly told by the service people that, " Honda is aware of the problem from other complaints they have received but has no fix at this time". Customer service told me the same information when they closed my complaint.

We then filed for mediation, which by the way you MUST do according to your owners manual before you can file for lemon law. We lost because we could not prove the INTERMITTENT fumes. We begged Honda to please keep the CRV and drive it to experience it for themselves but even though our service dept wanted to do it Honda refused to allow it. In the end the statement we were left with from Honda's representative during arbitration was, "We do not know what your driving habits are". They essentially were blaming us! We even asked the Honda rep if he would put his family in a car that filled with gas fumes and his reply was that the case was not about him. I repeated the question and he said "NO". It ended with no concern on Honda's part for our health and safety. You must also know Honda hires and pays for the arbitration to be performed by a private company. That is all I can say about that!

After the 6th time in service we were handed a slip of paper sent from the Honda tech center telling us that the "smell" inside the Honda vehicles seems to be concentrated in the Midwest and to use the gas stations (top tier gas) on the list. We looked back at our charge card bills and we used the recommended stations and told the service tech to let Honda know this. Evidently the service dept's can not relay information back. Throughout all 6 service visits, not once, did Honda replace a part to trouble shoot.

We then contacted an attorney and parked the CRV due to concerns of health and safety for ourselves when the gas fumes fill the cabin. The attorneys are now duking it out and the bills probably far exceed the cost of our 2016 Honda CRV. Same old story....

The sad part is that this is my favorite new vehicle (first Honda) out of many Toyota's and VW's. Even sadder is that Honda failed us as a first time customer with a safety and health problem involving their product. People we tell are surprised at how Honda has handled this. We hear the same statement over and over...."they are usually a very good company".

So I would like to know about others out there with the same issue (Honda says there are others) because it will help our case. Please...
