vtc actuator is defective. loud rattling sound from engine
I own a 2016 Honda CRV. I have less than 130,000klm (approximately 80,000 miles) and the VTC actuator is very loud at start up. I have been quoted $2,231 (plus tax?) for the repair from Henley Honda in St. Catharines, Ontario. I have owned many cars in my almost 50 years of driving and I have NEVER had such an expensive repair at such low mileage! That is to say, I have owned Fords, GMs, Austin Mini, VWs, Dodge and not one of them required such a costly repair at such low mileage. Also, Honda should be ashamed for knowingly building the same problem into more than one model and for many model years. Honda U.S. was sued over the VTC actuator, but Honda Canada will not honor the requirements of the U.S. lawsuit. I contacted Honda Canada and got absolutely nowhere. Honda Canada could not care less about the problem and have refused to be of ANY help whatsoever. WE NEED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST HONDA CANADA OVER THIS! I think this will be the last Honda I own.
Update from Sep 20, 2024 I was told by a Honda dealer in the U.S. that if my CRV was sold in the U.S. the repair would be under (extended) warranty. Thanks Honda Canada!
