Shameful approach to customer service - Honda clutch failure at under 30k miles = customer's problem
55 year old motorist, driving 30+ years, 30k miles a year, no prior history of clutch problems.
Bought CRV second hand from main dealer, c2.5 years old, 22,000 miles on clock, still under Honda warranty (trading in existing CRV with c150k miles on clock).
Smell of burning c 7 weeks later - taken into dealer - can't see anything obvious - suggest I may be riding clutch (I don't).
Go on holiday to very remote island off Scotland. Clutch fails completely at 29k miles, 65 days after having bought car.
Spend most of next week liaising with Honda about recovery and how family and dog are going to get home. Rack up c£450 in car hire charges.
Car recovered to main dealer. Investigation = clutch / dual mass flywheel has failed. Cost of repair = £1,830.
Honda and dealer refuse any liability as "clutch is a wear item" and failure is put down to wear.
Offered ex-gratia payments of 50% of repair cost by dealer and £250 re costs / disruption of holiday by Honda.
Offers refused and now taking action against Honda Finance (HP company) for recovery.
