Started noticing a strong raw fuel odor in my 2015 Honda CR-V when it started to get cold and my heater fan was on especially when you came to a stop. To a point where you have to open the windows, it's so strong. Took it in to the dealer 3 times for this. Finally the 3rd. time the service manager noticed the odor and called Techline, was told to spray leak trace powder on the low-high fuel pressure connections and top of the fuel pump and drive. No leaks found, no correction at that time. It's about 8 months later now getting cold again, experiencing the same thing. Happened to take the removable plastic cover off the top of the fuel pump in the engine compartment to see if their were any visible leaks where they sprayed, and noticed oxidation rust color only on the fuel pump around connections. Wondering if that's a sign of the pump leaking around fitting connections? Does anyone have this problem with a fix?
Shortly after taking over the vehicle we noticed a strong fuel smell entering the cabin when the car was idling. Once we starting driving, the smell disappeared. Unfortunately this problem seems to occur in a random fashion. I have not been able to predict the next occurrence.
After numerous checks by the dealership and with Honda Canada, the problem has not been resolved. Although they acknowledge a fuel smell is present, and they have replicated the problem while testing, no fix or word of a fix has been provided.
What is unfortunate is that Honda Canada has informed me that no "safety issue" is present at the moment and therefore have not offered a loaner vehicle while they "search for a fix". Apparently, and according to Honda's response to my inquiry, fuel vapour inhalation by the vehicles occupants is deemed safe by their standards.
