My 2015 Honda CR-V has gone through 3 dead batteries now, all OEM and replaced for free since the mileage was under 35k. Now I just crossed that mark and can tell a slight delay between pressing start and the vehicle responding. I had a great experience with my 2008 Honda Civic, but this car is ruining it for me and I'm determined to go with a different make next time. The CVT also makes the car vibrate noticeably while in gear and stopped at intersections. Lesson learned. I sure hope that my next (aftermarket) battery fixes this issue, but I'm fairly sure it's an electrical problem tied to the system and will be a headache for life.
2 weeks back when over 100 miles from my dealer I went to start my 2015 CRV and the engine struggled but did end up starting - however, had 4 check lights come on -- powersteering, TPMS, check engine, and VSA. Let it run for a bit, turned it off - let it sit for 20 minutes and restarted it with no problem starting BUT all 4 check lights still on. Being that it was 8pm - none of the service shops at dealers were open, so I slept on it and called in the morning. When I turned on the car in the morning - no problem starting and no check lights. Took it to a local dealer anyway to check it out and lucky for me the same issue occurred when in the shop.
They were able to diagnose it as Service Bulletin 16-011 - which is corrosion of the harness and wiring between the battery and the sensors. According to that dealer, due to the corrosion - it is a drain on the battery and ends up being diagnosed as a battery issue when in fact it is not. Since I was not from the area and wanted to be home prior to a snowstorm, they juiced up my battery and told me to drive straight to my dealer and provide them all the info they gave me. Once with my dealer, they acknowledged and agreed on the service bulletin fix - they also replaced my starter which probably had some issues after struggling with the battery related issues.
In case this happens to your car, ask the dealer to look into Service Bulletin 16-011.
Battery died again. This is the second time for my Honda CRV '15 EX. This time the guy who came to jump it said most of his dead battery calls were from......Hondas! What a shocker! He said the battery isn't the problem after testing it. It's their system. It sucks! He at least confirmed it was a Honda issue not a battery issue. Honda of course said the battery was working fine. I'm starting to think I need to get a different car :(
I own a 2015 CRV with 36,000 which I purchased new. I have dead battery issues. When I push the button to start it the lights all flicker and it doesn't start. I have had this happen approximately 8 times. Once it happened in my driveway after the car sat overnight. All of the other times it happened after I had been driving the car, stopped for a few minutes, and then it wouldn't start. 3 of these times it occurred after I had been driving at least a half hour. It happened 3 times when I stopped to get gas. It has been to the dealer where I purchased it and each time I've been told that they did a draw test and recharged the battery but couldn't find anything wrong.
This is the second time this has happened to me, go to the start my car and the battery is dead. The first time I just brought a new battery. This time I refused, especially since my car is still under warranty. I have been buying Honda since 1995 and I have never had such issues. I was told today the newer cars use more juice, well I don't expect to buy a new car every year that's just CRAZY. I am no longer loyal to Honda after this...GRRRRRR
I'm leaving the store this morning around 8:10am, I get in my car and it won't start!! My headlights automatically turn off if I forget to do it. But, I didn't even have them on. I call Honda Care Roadside Assistance. Then woman on the phone,t I could barely understand what she was saying due to her lack of pronunciation. It was SO bad! Then, she tells me it'll take up to an hour for a tow company to come jump my car. AN HOUR?! JUST FOR A JUMPSTART?! The town they are coming from is 12 minutes away. How does that even add up to an hour?! Anyway, I had rolled my window down cause I had just got off work and was a little warm from busting my a** and just being worked up in general from this unforeseen dilemma. I wait and wait and wait. An hour goes by... Nobody shows up. I call the tow company and they say that the serviceman is on his way and he should be here any minute. 30 more minutes goes by..... Nobody shows up! I call a friend to come jumpstart my car and he comes within 5 minutes, pops my hood and hooks up the jumper cables... Then guess who finally decides to show up... Too late buddy! He just said, "It took a while cause there were technical difficulties. Looks like you got it taken care of though. Glad everything is okay." Then gets back in his truck. Lazy a**!!
This isn't even the first time this has happened. This has happened at least 3 times this year. Which is just ridiculous considering I bought my car brand new with only 12 miles on it in 2015. Only 2 years ago.
I wish I would've known about this site when I bought my car!
With only 450 miles left on the basic warranty, we carried it across town to the selling dealer, who diagnosed the battery had two bad cells, replaced the battery, gone in less than one hour.
I am reading of all the battery problems with the CRV. I have gone through 4 batteries in 5 months. Each time the dealer tells me it was a bad batch of batteries. The old ones are always damages so bad they can not be recharged. The car checks out fine on all of tests. So what is the problem and what is the solution? At this point I do not trust the car to go on vacation. Any ideas?
About a year after buying a new 2015 Honda CR-V the battery went dead and I had to jump it.
At the time I thought it was because the doors were all open and some accessories might have been connected while I cleaned and detailed the inside. No issues for a while, but I purchased a ANKER battery jumper, heaving learned my lesson.
This year the cars has not started properly several times. I am not going to say the battery was dead, because the volt meter shows 12.5 volts one day and 10.0 volts the next with NO USE. I drove 400 miles to begin a vacation in a wild and remote location and the car would not start after the last gas stop. No parasitic drain here. The engine ran for seven hours. And would not start. I canceled the vacation rather than risk being stranded in a remote location at the recommendation of the dealer. I returned home immediately - another seven hours back to home.
The next day the dealer diagnosed NO PROBLEM after a free battery test and sent me on my way. A week later the car would not start.
I jumped it over and over for a week and returned for a $60 diagnostic service. I was told the battery needed to be replaced and they were going to use an OEM Honda product. I refused saying the original Honda product failed after only two years and the car now has an OPTIMA YELLOW TOP premium battery with a lifetime guarantee.
I will be returning the "old" OEM battery that came out of the car... but I was curious to see that the battery measured 12.5 volts. Not wanting to part with any EVIDENCE I will trickle charge the battery to full charge and see what happens.
In any case the dealer will see me again with the old battery - at which point I make ask for my $60 diagnostic fee back since there was nothing wrong with the battery they claim was the problem.
I'm waiting for that familiar CLICK - CLICK - CLICK when starting. My Honda CR-V does NOT charge properly in some instances and will NOT discharge (start the car) in other instances. There is much more to this story and the Subaru Forester is looking better all the time. Toyota RAV 4... maybe?
This is now the 3rd time that we have had this happen. Went out to start car in the evening after it had sat most of the day and it would not start. Lights flash on dashboard, hear the clicks of the engine trying to start, but won't turn over. Luckily still have the self starter pack and did it again.
Drove car 45 minutes to run errands and then pulled into the driveway and turned off car. Ran in house about 10 minutes came back out and car was dead like it was in November. Lights on dashboard flashed, clicking sound for car trying to start, but could not get car to start. Luckily have purchased a self jump kit and was able to self jump the car and get on to our son's college graduation party. Reported to dealership about this happening again.
We pulled into the Hobby Lobby parking lot by the door. My husband turned off the car was waiting for me about 10 minutes. He got out walked from the driver's door to the back seat door behind the passenger to put out grand daughter back in her seat and came back to the driver's seat and tried to start the car and it did not start. Lights flashed on the dashboard and you could hear click, click where the engine was trying to start, but could never turn over. Waited for 45 minutes for tow truck to jump car. Then took car to local Honda dealership. They looked it over the next morning and could find nothing wrong with it. That was on Friday.
On Sunday, my husband went to charge his cell phone in the car and found that the cell phone charger plug was melted inside the charger station of the car. Called dealership a few weeks later to let them know what we found as they charged us $83 to run tests and they said nothing was wrong. After that was told that they had problems with the equipment used to check batteries and the electrical system and had to send their equipment to Chicago to be fixed. Was told to check back with the dealership in a few weeks and they could re-run their tests.
It turned bitter cold, and auto start just flashed the lights, no run, the let it set 2 days, and battery is now totally dead. We now have a battery charger on a battery about the size of a motorcycle’s. Just glad it died at home, and not some place that would have caused someone to freeze.. It got down to -22 over the weekend.
HAD CRV SENCE 9/2015 AND ITS BEEN GREAT SO FAR BUT ONLY HAS 6000+ MILES ON IT SO IT SHOULD BE GREAT. WIFE DRIVES CRV HOME FROM WORK AND ALLS WELL, PARKS IN DRIVE WAY COME IN HOME. HOUR LATER WE ARE LEAVING TO GET IN CRV AND NOTICE LIGHTS ARE ON AND ALL ACCESSORIES ARE ON INSIDE. WE KEEP THE LIGHTS SET ON AUTOMATIC. WHEN SHE CAME HOME IT WAS LIGHT BUT DARK WHEN WE LEFT AND NOTICED EVERYTHING ON. TRIED TO START CRV BUT BATTERY WAS DEAD TO THE POINT IT WOULDNT START. TURN OVER BUT NOT START. NO WARNING SIGNALS OR PROBLEM INDICATORS FLASHING. TURNED LIGHT OFF AND CALLED HONDA ROADSIDE FOR TOW TO DEALER. NEXT MORNING TOW TRUCK GUY ARRIVES AND PUTS A METER ON BATTERY AND IT SHOWS 10.7 VOLTS PUTS BOOSTER ON AND CRV STARTS RIGHT UP. LOADS IT AND TAKES TO DEALER.AROUND 130P I CALLED DEALER TO GET STATUS AND FIND OUT ITS READY. WHEN WE PICK CRV UP DEALER SAYS NOTING WRONG AND SHOW ME BATTERY IS 13.4V. ON SERVICE PAPER. I KNOW A COUPLE OF THINGS --ONE- CRV CUT ITS SELF ON BECAUSE LIGHTS WERE SET ON AUTOMATIC AND IT WAS DARK SO FOR WHAT EVER REASON IT THOUGHT IT WAS IN OPERATION---2-- I SAW BATTERY VOLT METER 10.7 METER READING NEXT MORNING AND BATTERY WAS DEAD AND CRV STILL WOULDNT START--3--TOW DRIVER DIDNT RUN CRV ON WAY BACK TO DEALER SO HOW DOES BATTERY NOW SHOW A 13.4V CHARGE IF DEALER COULDNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR DO ANYTHING?. IM NOT A CAR EXPERT BUT SEEMS TO THAT THE SENSOR FOR THE AUTO SETTING FOR LIGHTS HAS AN ISSUE AND DOESNT ALWAYS KNOW WHEN VEHICLE IS SHUT DOWN. MIGHT BE IN SOFTWARE WHO KNOWS --WOODSON HONDA IN ROANOKE VA DOESNT.
New Honda CR-V September 2014. After 30 kms 1st electrical problem. Just short of 1 year, twice battery dies. Twice in 6 weeks and 2 dealerships have no idea - even if they wish to!! Have found on internet that this could be either a relay in the air conditioning or that the 'multiplex' "wake-up" and "sleep" functions have ceased to operate correctly. As I am a Scotsman in France I do not expect to be treated correctly so I will have to provide 'leads' to the Honda Garage. Can anyone help overcome this problem??
Battery in 4 month old NEW CAR went DEAD while out at veterinarian's office with dying cat. No charge. Had to call tow truck. Towed to Tameron Honda in Daphne. Begged for loaner car which was finally granted. Was told by service that "there was a software update " they were "not aware of" and they updated software. They have "no idea if this will fix the problem" and I may be "stranded again." Asked if I could request any updates be sent to me or I be notified of any and they said "no."
So how does Honda expect us to live and have reliable transportation under these circumstances?
Update from Nov 17, 2015: Continuing to have problems with car going "dead" while out driving and shopping etc. Today it happened again that after going into Fresh Market to shop, I could not get the car started and there was no battery action or any way to turn the engine on. Had to have the car jumped off. Will be contacting Honda Dealership where sold.
