Since March 22, 2017 my 2011 Honda CR-V has cut off (come to a complete stop) while driving either on highways, city streets, in parking lot or as I am pulling out or into a parking space. The last incident was on Friday May 19, 2017. I am not comfortable driving a vehicle that at any given point just stops moving without any warning. On Friday the 19th of this month (May 2017) I had was driving on I-40 speed 65 down to 45 and proceeded to the off ramp, as I made my way around the curb of the off ramp to enter a 4 lane bi-pass my car immediately came to a halt.
Yet as always I am able to turn the ignition over and the car starts up again and I can proceed with my travels. The car started up again, I drove about 3 miles when on I-220 North when for the first time since March I noticed that I had to put more effort in acceleration. Nothing I could do could would prevent the car from shutting down, and once again, it shut down without any indication from the dashboard panels.
By the way I did not mention that I have taken the car to two Honda dealerships at least two times, and have spoken with their service department more than 5 times, each time I have been told, "If the check engine light is not on there is no way for them to know what is wrong with the vehicle. I have had non dealership mechanics look into the problem two weeks ago a trusted mechanic in my neighborhood serviced my car he rest the computer and told me if car cuts off again bring her back. I did and he checked car again and was baffled; he has over 40 years experience as a mechanic fixing all makes and models.
On Friday the same day of the cut offs (4times) I took my to my pastor's mechanic, he couldn't find the problem either though he knew how to check vehicle without having an engine light come on. He ran my car for a few hours and when we both were ready to call it quits the car cut off and he was able to get a code. It gave some indication that it may be a fuse dealing with the ECM/PCM. I wish I could give more but his explaining what was wrong was hard to understand, due to his accent no slight against him. I will be asking Honda about ECM / PCM and get back to you when I know something.
Update from Dec 11, 2017: Well it is now December 11, 2017 and my car still has the same problem. The dealership has done all that they know to do. They have changed the ECM/PCM and the relay switch to no avail. I have changed the air filter believing that would help. I thank God for the dealership they have been courteous and generous with trying to find the source of my problem. When I wrote this complaint, I was not angry at the dealership or the manufacturer it is not their fault. There is something not connecting or missing and they are diligently trying to find an answer.
I want to thank the dealership for their dedication and time. I certainly hope you will find the problem before the winter. Thanks again for all your hard work. It is appreciated.
