The contact owns a 2010 Honda CR-V. while the vehicle was at don ayres Honda (4740 lima road, fort wayne, in 46808, (260) 484-0551) for routine maintenance, the contact was informed that the driver's door failed to open. The dealer replaced the driver's door latch mechanism and stated that there was a warranted repair for the door latch failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 46,990.
Vehicle was rear-ended by a faster vehicle. The impact forced the transmission into "park, " which automatically locked the doors, trapping any occupants. Had there been a fire or water submergence situation, there could be unnecessary injury or even death. Vehicle door locks need to be re-designed to let occupants escape in an emergency.
