CarComplaints.com Notes: While the 2009 CR-V still came equipped with tires that wear out faster than my Grandpa after a turkey dinner, Honda did address an electrical problem with the door locks that plagued owners of previous model years.

On 1/28/2017, I borrowed my daughter's 2009 Honda LX CR-V, drove it for an hour (44 miles), returned home and parked it in the driveway, turning it off. I took the keys and went into the house. About ten minutes later, another daughter said that she heard a car alarm. We looked out the window and saw that the front of the car was on fire! We called 911, the fire department came and put it out, but the car ultimately was declared a total loss. There was no warning, no indicator lights came on while I was driving and I did not smell anything. The car only had 87,000 miles on it and seemed to be running beautifully as always. No one figured out what happened. Our mechanic said that it could have been some kind of electrical short or a gas leak. The fire department said that it started near the battery. We had the driver's airbag replaced last August as required under the major recall that impacted Honda and other car manufacturers.
We are so lucky that I had not pulled the car into the garage as that might have set the entire house on fire and we are lucky that it did not happen while I was driving on the Massachusetts Turnpike, which can be isolated. We also are relieved that my daughter was not driving the car.
We are disgusted that this happened and want to warn others.
