Hello I-??m [XXX] and own a 2008 Honda CRV that runs fine. VIN [XXX], but previous owner never went to the recall and I bought the car in 2014 and recently, during a brake job, I first became aware of the problem when my mechanic alerted me to the recall situation and the rusting out that was putting drivers in a very dangerous situation. My car failed the recall because of the rust causing the degradation of the rear suspension trailing arm, and now I'm left with a car not fit to drive" and I would be liable for whatever happens but I was never offered a solution to buy the car back something to help and I cannot be without one to get to Dr-??s or buy food live rural I have no choice living alone at [XXX] need a car. So a question, why am I the problem? when, in the first place, the car was dangerous from the manufacturer to the rusting out situation which was actually life threatening, lose steering, the wheel could collapse or the frame itself, and again, never offered any help at all some compensation, nothing? Just drive it home with the burden of the liability etc. I-??m on a Fixed income of only $800 a month how am I to survive living rural without a car at my age? Please, I need some help. Why am I being punished when the design itself, as I said, created the dangerous problem and just that's it" Appreciate help from someone. While driving my vehicle and making a turn in a residential area the steering wheel got stiff and felt as if the steering wheel locked I was able to turn but very slowly as if the car were in neutral almost felt like idling. I checked my steering fluid level and it was at the proper level so I'm not too sure what is going on but I've been reading up on this issue and find it to be common with this generation of Honda Cr-vs. I will be taking my vehicle to a mechanic to be looked at immediately but feel this is something that should be looked into I have never felt more unsafe driving than when that happened it was a very scary feeling and I am thankful that the speed of traffic was not fast paced otherwise I would have very likely been in an accident.

Recently on the visit to Honda dealer for air bag recall replacement the service advisor told me that my rack and pinon steering on the vehicle was leaking. I was surprised as the vehicle has been well maintained and not abused. It also has less than 98K on it. A search online shows that numerous other Honda 2008 CR-V owners have noted a similar problem and this seems to be a common occurrence on this model which I believe warrants a recall for Honda to repair at their expense. Failure of this part would lead to sudden loss of steering and I feel this is a safety issue. Complaints by other 2008 Honda CRV owners regarding this issue can be found at is this issue being escalated to a recall? steering failure should be considered a safety issue of the highest priority. Quote was $1,600

This vehicle only has 80K miles and the rack and pinion needs to be replaced for the high cost of $1,300. Appears to be a common issue, recall or product update needs to be offered from Honda. Where's the reliability?

I have not had any issues other than the typical recalls on my Honda CR-V. the steering suddenly became difficult and took it to the dealer. I was lucky that there was minimal traffic and the dealership was close. They told me the rack and pinion steering needed to be replaced. It appears this is a common problem with the 2008 CR-V's. several mechanics now have indicated this should not have happened. Very frustrating.

2008 Honda CRV with less than 67000 miles. Taken for inspection in March and was told the rack and pinion needs to be replaced. Starting to leak. Needs to be replaced within a couple of months. I never saw where it was leaking. Took it in to dealership and had rack and pinion replaced. They said it was bad, charged about $1000.

My wife informed me she had difficulty turning the steering wheel during a near miss accident with our 2008 Honda CR-V. the power steering fluid was low but not near the minimum level, more fluid was added and the issue seemed to resolve itself. A few months later during a routine oil change, the mechanic noticed a power steeeing fluid leak and said the rack and pinion was leaking and replacing it was the recommended repair. The vehicle currently has 62,000 miles on it and the repair including alignment is around $1,250. My online research has revealed this issue is not isolated.

Steering rack and pinion is leaking when I took it to a mechanic he told me that this problem is common with the 2008 Honda CRV, and very expensive to fix.idid some research online I was shocked by how many people complaining about same problem, and Honda refuse to take the responsibility.this is a serious safety issue, losing control of the vehicle while driving my cause death or injury.I still didn't fix my car cause I feel that Honda should be held responsible for the repair of the vehicle after so many people complained and it's only effect this particular make and model.

The high-pressure power steering hose is leaking fluid, dropping to the hot engine and the belts. I think it is more pronounced when the car is in motion. I have had the car checked out in a Honda dealership near me because of a new noise arising from the engine compartment probably from the belts contaminated with the steering fluid. When I went online under Honda recall, the very specific item ' the high-pressure power steering hose was under recall for many models of Honda because of potential fire hazard. The Honda of America told me that although the other models had recall for this item, the CRV is not one among them. I'm assuming that the same defective product is used in many models including CRV and therefore, Honda should replace this defective item with potential for fire hazard from CRV and possibly other models.

I took my Honda CR-V 2008 to local Honda dealer for air bag recalls. I asked them to check the sound coming from engine, sort of engine racing at a high speed while the vehicle was stationary. Also, I was hearing noises when turning left or right. It felt like I had to apply force to turn the steering. After running diagnostics, the dealer came back with $1800 quote for replacement of rack and pinion, and the power steering pump. Doing a simple google search, I came across postings from multiple Honda CR-V 2008 owners, who were having the exact same problem. I called Honda customer support number, who talked nicely, but said that they could not do anything as that was not part of the recall, and that I will have to get that fixed on my own. Since so many people seem to have the exact same problem, Honda should assist with repair, which otherwise is so very expensive. We did not buy Honda to get surprises like these. Hope they are listening!!!
