The contact owns a 2008 Honda CR-V. while the vehicle was being serviced by a dealer for an unrelated issue, the dealer observed steering fluid leaking and the steering linkage was damaged. The technician stated that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,384.
The 2008 Honda CR-V has issues with the power steering system. I purchased my car new car and recently brought my car into the dealer for a door-lock actuator recall at david mcdavid Honda in Texas and I was told by the dealership that I have a leak in my rack and pinion that cannot be fixed. I have to replace the entire power steering/ rack and pinion system with an alignment for about a cost of $1500. This is a significant problem/defect with the 2008 CR-V and Honda should recall the model. This is a safety issue due to a fire hazard. My car mileage is only 11, 637. It does not make sense for it to have a power steering problem at this time.
Me and my wife bought a 2008 Honda crvlx and the dealership on 4-15-2015 and said they did a inspection on the Honda then I took it to my mechanic and they told me the rack and pinion and boot was bad and can cause the steering to go bad to me and alot of other reviews I have read had the same problem also my wife drove on the interstate for the first time in new call and the steering wheel was shaking there should be a recall no matter what about the rack and pinion going bad and if it breaks while driving it would probably cause a wreck thanks
Due to a faulty steering rack, steering wheel was pulled out of my hands during a right hand turn. No accident due to low speed at time of occurrence, but very frightening. Despite other reported occurrences of this malfunction at low mileages, Honda would not take responsibility.

I bought my 2008 CRV used in 2010 and soon after put on 4 new tires. Now it is 2014 and I put on another new set of tires. I wondered why I needed tires so soon, well now I know. I bought 4 new tires and when they tried to do the alignment they told me I needed to buy a camber kit and showed me the picture of the alignment after. They were unable to align the right rear passenger wheel without this added kit. I can't afford this.

I was told by hendricks Honda, woodbridge, va that I have a leak in my rack & pinion which cannot be fixed. I have to replace the entire power steering/ rack&pinion systems with an alignment for a cost of over $1600. I asked whether this was a common problem for this year's model and didn't get a straight answer. Based on numerous reports here and on the web, it appears that this is a significant problem/defect with 2008 crvs and Honda should recall the model. I also understand by reports folks have filed that this is potentially a safety hazard, possible fire hazard. Honda should be required to recall and correct the defect..
Steering rack & pinion was found to have a leak. Affected steering performance of vehicle along with leak being a fire hazard. Purchased new in 2007. Went to dealer to have it replaced and total cost came out to usd $1200.

The 2008 Honda CRV has issues with the power steering system. ~3 years after I purchased the new car, I was told by Honda express service that the power steering fluid level was low when I was doing oil change. But the dealership couldn't identify a leak. When the vehicle was 6 years old, the leak finally showed up, and the whole rack&pinion needs to be replaced. Of course, the fluid is flammable. The slow leak doesn't show up till a certain amount has been gathered, which makes it a fire hazard not easy to identify. Dealer says it's a common issue, but Honda never admitted it, not to say a recall on the problematic seal.
The 2008 CRV pulls to the right when over 40 mph. There were 2 wheel alignments done recently, and the dealer says there is nothing wrong with the car. When you drive the car and let go of the steering wheel it pulls to the right. It takes constant pressure on the steering wheel to keep the car driving in a straight line. In my opinion this is a safety issue. The dealer says there is nothing wrong. I disagree and will not buy another Honda CRV. This is a safety issue.
At 16800 miles - vehicle makes squealing noise turning right or left. Dealer found backing plate scraping and wheel nut missing. Bent backing plate so it would not scrape and replaced wheel nut. Alignment issues continue right front wheel gets hot after short drive and has burning smell - mileage now 25000. This type of problem is reported 1000's of times by owners of Honda crvs. When will Honda issue a recall for this?
The vehicle drifts to the right. This drift has nothing to do with the crown of the road. It drifts to the right on perfectly flat roads. I thought the wheels needed to be aligned, but after the first wheel alignment (at the Honda dealer in tallahassee) the problem persisted and continued to persist after several more attempts to align the wheels. The dealership consulted with the manufacturer in California and subsequently the right front strut was replaced. That did not solve the problem. The dealership said that both it and the manufacturer were aware of the problem and that it could not be fixed. The dealer called it "memory steer" and said it was a known problem with the 2008 CR-V. they also mentioned that it might have something to do with being unable to adjust the camber on this vehicle. I've noted numerous similar complaints on the internet. I took the vehicle to the dealer approximately seven times over the course of a couple of months and the problem was not fixed. The vehicle still drifts to the right. It needs to be fixed. (the vehicle mileage is the mileage at the time I purchased this pre-owned vehicle. I purchased it in des moines, Iowa and now live in tallahassee, fl.).
I have been the only owner and bought my 2008 Honda CR-V brand new. I take my oil change to Honda dealership thinking they would advise me if there was something wrong with my car. Also, to help ensure I do preventative maintenance with my vehicle. I live in Texas and it gets very hot here. I never had any problems until now, when the weather starts getting cooler. I started hearing a "clicking noise" whenever I turn my wheel to the right, especially in a cold morning. It didn't use to make that noise whenever it gets hot in the afternoon. But then, the past couple of days the noise is now pretty much permanent. I tried taking my car to the dealership, I have 44K on it. But they want to charge me $75 to do a diagnostic test. I asked them if they can waive it since I've been a customer for the past 3 years. They wouldn't budge. Needless to say, I went to another dealership to take a look. They said I needed to replace my rack and pinion. My car is pretty brand new, I had high hopes when it comes to Honda vehicles. I've had a Honda Accord and an Acura TL in the past. For some reason, my Honda CR-V is having a lot of mechanical problems. The steering wheel is a safety issue.
I put 4 new Michelin defender tires on my CRV and noticed that the car was pulling to the left which has never occurred before. I went back to discount tire where they changed my left tire and then it pulled to the right. They changed my right tire and the car was now pulling in both directions. Discount then put on 4 new Michelin energy saver tires and the car was still pulling. I took the car into the dealership, brakes plus, big O tires, and network auto and received all different kinds of responses but one thing in common....my alignment was fine. Brakes plus told me it was the left bushing which was incorrect. Big O tires told me nothing was wrong with my car. Dealership told me it was the tread pattern of the Michelin tires or the toe. Honda recommended that I get Bridgestone duelers which I did and the car was still pulling. Went to network auto and they told me it was memory steer and that the strut mounds were binding. Went back to dealership where they decided to fix the strut mounds under warranty after numerous complaints but the car is still pulling. Took the car to the dealership where I bought it from and they told me nothing is wrong and did not drive it on the freeway. I drove 40 miles out of my way to be told nothing is wrong with my car and have it pull right the entire drive home (waste of time and money). I am going to start a new job where I have to drive alot and Transport minors in my car and I am very concerned about safety. I did a search in regards to memory steer and many people reported the same complaints for the 2008 CRV. This is an issue that is worth looking into because the car could get pulled into oncoming traffic or to the right. So far, no one at the dealership has been helpful and they harass me to buy a new car. If I buy a new one it will not be a Honda due to how I have been treated.
Purchased 2008 CRV brand new, it came with Bridgestone tires. A few months after purchase, I noticed vehicle pulls to right. After rotation, vehicle pulls to left. They also wore out rapidly 20K; needed to be replaced. I contacted Honda dealer. After they conducted alignment check they said you need to contact Firestone/Bridgestone for tire warranty because of radial pull. Firestone agreed to replace all 4 tires. I just did my first rotation after new set of tires and now vehicle pulls to left. I must put some muscle work on steering wheel to keep vehicle straight. I will be going back to Honda to follow-up. There is an issue with the either the tires or suspension/alignment on this vehicle that Honda needs to address.
After having the car serviced at the dealership (oil change) I went to have the tires rotated. On the drive home the car was pulling to the right very hard and I had to fight to keep the car on the road. Discussed the problem with the tire store and took the car back the next day. After numerous tire rotations nothing fixed the problem and the car was now straying to the left, if I made a left hand turn, on top of pulling to the right, if I made a right hand turn. Neither the dealership or the tire store had ever experienced this, nor did they know what the problem was. Then I had the mechanic, from the dealership, drive the car and he blamed it on the tire pressure being off 5 pounds in the front vs the rear. However, he had the car in service department for 20-25 minutes and I did not see what was done to the car. Then he explaned it was all fixed, it should drive normally and the tire pressure was the problem. The tires are not wearing evenly and I am on my second set. I rotate/balance them when required and keep all receipts. I was also told there was an oil leak in the front crank seal with no explanation as to why. My concern is the with the steering pulling so hard to the right and at issue is safety. The dealership could not explain why it was pulling either direction and blaming it on the tires and air pressure. I don't buy that at all. Now it drives straight down the road and does not pull. But what caused it to do this in the first place" will this happen again? is there a Honda recall and if not why"
This is my second 2008 CRV - my first I owned for 1-2 days before returning to dealership to tell them the front end was not balanced correctly. They kept the car for a week trying to correct the problem and could not. I refused to keep it and I received a new car a week later. However, since then I am now on my third set of tires - even though I rotate, align and balance regularly and I just reached 40,000 miles on my car. To make matters worse I just failed my state inspection due to a failed seal and leak in the steering rack and pinion area. Of course this is not under warranty now. However, it's not a wear and tear item - it's a safety issue - but nonetheless not covered under warranty. The dealership is going to pay for the part $1,200, but I must pay for the labor of just under $800. Unfortunately I'm not all that positive the new part they will be putting in is any better than the faulty one that is already in my car! I have already put three sets of tires on this second new car and now I must pay for yet another faulty issue. Perhaps the wheel balance issue is related to the faulty steering as they are connected. Does someone have to die before Honda will recognize they have a real problem with the CR-V?? my next car will not be a Honda!
Power steering rack leaking and required total replacement of rack and pinion steering rack. Told this was a safety issue by dealership that repaired the car.
