My 2008 CRV started flashing "Check Fuel Cap" on the screen. I can temporarily tell it to shut up but it comes on each time I start the car and after a few minutes each time I tell it shut up. I took it to my usual mechanic and they took hours to "diagnose" the problem. They said it might be that the fuel cap needed to be replaced. I ordered one from a Honda dealership and it hasn't fixed the problem. The mechanic said this might happen and that if it does, I should come back so they can run "deeper" diagnostics. Sounds to me like they didn't run them at all but charged me $102 for nothing. I usually really like them and they have been pretty good to me but this incident has turned me off.
I'm wondering if it is just the sensor and not an actual issue with the gas cap.
