My beige 2008 Honda CRV got two colors now. There is a big spot on the hood, roof above the windshield and rear hatch that faded. Most of all CRV with that year got the same problem. I heard the Honda Civic with the same year got the same problem which Honda recalled it. I hope Honda will recall the CRV too. It will cost me $2,000 to have it repaint the whole unit.
My 2008 Honda CRV EXL ' s hood paint has started to chip, crackle, and flake off. This started on 7/31/10 when my husband was washing the car. To say that he freaked out, would be an understatement!
We received no satisfaction from the rude and condescending District Manager who attributes the problem to a caustic substance such as bird poop or acid or tree sap!!! Of course, this is not Honda's fault! Aside from two large areas of damage (about thumb size), there are many small flaked areas that cannot be attributed to melting or dissolving, but does indicate a faulty factory paint job as corroborated by the experienced owner of a body shop that we deal with.
Apparently, Honda's 3 year Paint Warranty is false. Honda must save an awful lot of money in not honoring this warranty since other CRV owners have had the same problem with the 2008 model. If it is poop from a Super Bird, why do none of our other 2 cars have the same problem????
My son owns a 5 year old Honda Civic and the paint is still intact and he also agreed that it was a faulty factory paint job on my car, and HE does work in the car industry in Detroit, Michigan and is very knowledgeable about cars. He was aghast when we told him about my paint problem and he stated that Honda owes me a new hood not to accept a repaint, which of course they are not doing since they refuse to take any responsibility for this problem.
I AM LIVID, I paid a lot of money for this car and did not expect to have any problems, since Honda has such a great reputation. I guess I was wrong. I know will never purchase another Honda car. We were intending to buy our daughter a car this summer from Honda-but NOT NOW. They lost a customer for life and, BELIEVE me I will alert family and friends not to purchase a Honda Car.
Update from Aug 31, 2010: Well, I just heard back from American Honda thru BBB TrustLink. They responded to my complaint alright-but it was about a different model!!!!- I have a 2008 CRV Exl with peeling and chipping paint on my hood and they were responding about a 2004 Odessey with transmission problems!
Do you think they know what they are doing @ Corporate? Because the factory end of the Company sure does not-I have read about so many different Honda models with the same paint problem, that I am starting to think that Honda is just using inferior paint. It seemed to me that I just had a bad paint job-but now I think it is the paint itself that is the culprit.
There is a 3 inch diameter of clear coat which is severely crackled on the hood of this five month old Honda. The dealership service manager tells me it is from bird poop --call my insurance company. All our family cars should be crackled if this is the case. This had to be a super bird! I thought his management of this concern was condescending.
