Air con unit. Was never a huge user of air conditioning due to dry eyes symptom. However, had a really bad run of hot weather in Oz and needed to have it cranked up. Had used the heater in the car, however when came to the air was another story. Car was out of warranty as a result of mileage not years. Eventually told compressor etc was gone and needed to be replaced so had to shelve out the funds. For a car that was less than 2 years old at the time it was ridiculous they tried to tell me at one stage my lack of use contributed to the problem. Yet again will never buy another Honda product again ever.

We bought this CR-V Brand new in 2007 thinking that Honda stands behind the product. So far was good, we always took it to the same dealership for service for last 4+ years and when this issue came up, they didn't want to help. Last time during oil change, I mentioned to them saying that there is a problem with the A/C, the tech said “Oh yeah, that has been a problem with 2007 always”. I was shocked to hear that others have had the same issue as myself and no one at Honda has done anything about it. I did not get an estimate as I couldn’t afford $2000. I did get an after market estimate which was about $1100. I called Honda and they said I have to get an estimate from Honda dealership. I have provided them with an Estimate which cost me $123 to see what they could do to help. So far, I haven’t heard anything from them and will update this case as soon as I hear something back. I feel like if many people have complained about the same issue, they should fix it for no charge.

Like of the complaints I've read here, I was driving back from Las Vegas in the middle of the summer. Turn on the A/C and hot air comes out. Ok, so I thought it was so damn hot outside that the A/C couldn't handle it. I get into LA and it is still hot air, went to parts store for freon, but that did not help any. Took it to the Honda dealer near my house who I really don't like, they said they would charge me $108 to check it. I said to hell with that, too much money. Went to a different dealer and they were much better, although they said it would cost from $1200 to $2000 to fix it. So I went to an independent repair shop who replace both the A/C compressor and condenser for $970. Works fine now. I'm hearing there is a recall on the A/C but it does not show up on Honda's site because it is not a safety issue. It should be there. I've had 4 Hondas, never a problem until now. I have another issue, but I have to write a separate one for that.

Compressor for A/C is shot!!! I have read numerous other complaints about this issue with Hondas. The compressor should last more than 4 or 5 years. I have owned cars that are 10-12 years old and still have working compressors. Quote from the local Honda dealer were we bought it was just shy of $1000.

I live in N. Cali and was driving down to S. Cali on August 10th and the AC stopped blowing cold air. It was 104degrees so I needed to get it repaired quickly since I had my kids with me and it was very uncomfortably hot! I thought it was the freon that needed to be refilled but it turns out that the compressor needed to be replaced. I called Anaheim Honda and they wanted $1100 to fix it. Wow! Really? A 2007 with an AC problem? I bought Honda because I thought it would be very reliable but they proved me wrong. It turns out that Honda has a civil lawsuit against them also for faulty compressors on the older CRV models. What a ripoff. Other than that the car has been great.

Update from Aug 22, 2012: I just wanted to provide an update so that it might help others who are having the same problem. I took it back to the dealership where we bought the car and they charged us $895. Another local dealership wanted the same thing so it sort of gave me piece of mind that it was the same price.

Update from Feb 13, 2013: Ok six months later and I have another update to write about. Honda sent me a letter stating that they were extending the warranty on the ac compressor and they were offering to pay for the repair or refund me my money if I had already paid to get it repair. I was very happy that I would be fully funded for the repair so I filled out the requested paperwork and mailed it within 2days. I just got a call on 2-11-13 from a Honda Customer Service rep. and she told me that it would take about 6-8weeks to get my check. I was somewhat disappointed that it was going to take almost 2months to get my month but hey at least I was going to get paid eventually. HOWEVER, when I got home today and opened my mail box I got a letter from Honda Corp. that stated that I would not be getting a refund because I did not "fit their parameter critiria". WTF? I am so confused now and you bet I am calling them tomorrow to find out what is really going on. If I don't get paid then I will take them to court. I encourage everyone that has a 2007 CRV and had this problem to call Honda and demand payment also.

I saw that there is a class action suit for the 2002-2004 CRV models....hoping this happens for 2007, because I see that this is far more common than what it should be! I have ONE final car payment left, and I WILL NOT purchase a new Honda! Very disappointed. The worst part is that we were had a 14 hour drive in 100 degree temperatures with HOT AIR....followed by a whopping $850 bill for a new air compressor! Ridiculous!

Initially the problems first started with a whining sound off and on I was given suggest by many mechanics, and even paid a online mechanic adviser who was wrong. I called the 1 800 phone number and asked if there were any recalls on under the hood, the agency operator responded not at this time. I went to the dealer and told them the pulley maybe not rotating cause I smelled burnt rubber. I paid to replace a pulley, cost $125.00 parts and labor. It didn’t solve the problem; the dealer suggested they could take it apart and find the real problem. I asked would they add it towards diagnostic cost, which they wouldn’t. Diagnostic would have cost $69 and for labor ($90 per hour). I left and added I’ll wait till it goes out. I notice the sound got louder and when I turned off the AC it stopped. Finally my friend and tested by removing the belt and started the car and the noise was gone. I told my friend to rotate the ac compressor pulley he did and it was the problem. We replaced the filters, expansion valve, compressor and flushed the system and Bamm!!! Problems solve. We saved $$$ do it our self parts about $600

2007 HONDA CRV 70k miles - On the 2nd day of 95+ temp heat wave on a long ride with my dog/kids jammed in the car, the ac goes starts blowing hot air. We were dying with all the windows open - feeding the dog ice cubes to try to cool him down. Finally, got an appointment at dealer on the 7th day who tells me the air compressor is shot and $800 please. When I asked what could have caused it, he said "we don't do an autopsy to find out why". So, I researched this site, called him back and reminded him of the class action lawsuit on 2002-2004 CRVs and what was dealer or Honda doing about the 2007s. He said it was a whole different system, had nothing to do with my car and didn't offer anything. OK fine - didn't really expect he would after reading everything on this site. But, per the advice of another complainer, I will be writing to the Attorney General to get in on the next class action lawsuit for the CRVs left out of the first settlement. And, I will be writing and sending my bill to the President of Honda (also suggested) along with a request for a recall to fix the problem and pay my bill.

Update from Jul 6, 2012: An update an hour after posting - my dealer called me back, said they called Corporate office and asked them to reduce the cost. It was reduced 40% but would not reduce to zero. Still will send letter to Attorney General to get in on a future class action and push for a recall.

This is the second compressor on a Honda CRV that disintegrated. The first was on a 2003 Honda CRV that disintegrated while on vacation in Las Vegas in July in 2006. Nice! The second was a 2007 Honda CRV that broke down while on vacation in Denver July 2011. There's something to be said about the compressor units installed in the Honda CRV's, and it's not good! The second breakdown caused the fan belt to snap, resulting in an expensive tow!

It happened to be 107 degrees that day, no exaggeration, like all of a sudden the AC turns warm/hot. Figured maybe we needed freon added. Go to the autoparts store and buy freon. Simple fix?? Wrong. The compressor wont turn on so we could ck the amt of freon. Take it to the garage, not a Honda dealer, they sd it is an electrical problem. They narrow it down to electrical problem, compressor. So I said can you get a hold of compressor, no. Cant find one. So then I start searching the web. Even the junkyards wont even rebuild them. The mechanic who worked on my car sd that when they pulled the compressor out he noticed down around the pulley blue metal, which he said the belt must have been getting hot or there had been a problem all along. Makes sense I said, we were smelling burnt rubber certain times we came back from driving around. I didnt associate that with this til now and I remembered that we had used the AC or defroster. I had taken the car to the dealer the first time we smelled burnt rubber but they said nothing was wrong. We have moved over 1 hr away from the dealer I bought the car from and they are to be calling me tomorrow. They better find a compressor for me. Right now not a happy Honda owner.

My air conditioner broke down on our way to a wedding in the hottest day of the year. Reading on the instrumentation was 38 degree celcius. I have not taken it to the dealer yet but by all the complaints I see on the net, I'm not alone with this problem. Looks like Honda have known about this problem since 2002 but have not made proper adjustments to remedy the problem. I Also have a Civic and an Accord. I am in the market for another vehicle but this breakdown and pending expense is making me consider another manufacturer.

The AC compressor died and there weren't any in North America according to the dealer ... then when I complained and added some pressure one magically appeared. No clue whether it was new or taken off a wreck but the AC is back working.

The compressor failed after the dealer had done $500 worth of work on the AC ... and while the compressor was supplied at no charge I was out an additional $500 for labour and other parts

First, I thought that the battery went dead. I had to get the battery jumped. Once the vehicle got jumped I saw steam coming from the bottom of the car. My husband looked under the car and saw oil at the bottom of my pan. First I thought that I had a loose gasket. So had the car towed to the dealer. Once, at the dealer they checked the car and told me that there was nothing wrong with my engine and that the oil could have splashed from driving on the road or some oil could of dripped from the prior oil change I had and splashed on the belts and started the smoking. The only thing I needed was to get the battery juiced back up. I then get a call from the dealer telling me that I need a new battery. So I had them replace the battery. Now they tell me that something is pulling on the battery draining the power. So they did another check and that is when they tell me that it is the AC compressor. I asked how is that possible the car is just getting to 52,000 miles, I was the first owner, I keep up with ALL maintenance of the car.

They tell me that it could be because of the electrical system. I have had my car at the dealer trying to figure out what the problem was for 3 days. No one can tell me how it could have happen or if it could happen again. I even asked if there is any recalls on this particular problem no answers!!!!!!!!

AC compressor went bad in 3yr old vehicle, advised entire system would have to be replaced, $1100.00. Internet search revealed similar complaints in CR-Vs since 2002. Dealer advised talking with American Honda case manager to see if they could assist in any way (some reports that Honda reduced cost of repair due to "Goodwill Warranty", no assist for others). No goodwill here - denied any assistance, stated vehicle was too far out of warranty.

AC compressor went out after 125k miles. Dealer said "Honda isn't known for their air conditioners, haha". I had a 2nd problem with my navigation system at the same time and Dealer said "boy, I'm not even sure who to send this too, haha". Pushed me over the edge. I drove down the street to the Toyota dealer. I pick up my new Rav4 in 2 days.

I have also replaced tires after 40k, rear diff fluid twice. Had enough of the Honda quality.
