I have been driving Honda for as long as I can remember and never expected to have such a hard time with a vehicle. While driving the vehicle it made a loud noise and would not move any further. After it was diagnosed I was informed that there was an issue with the transmission. So, I decided to call Honda to see if they will be willing to accommodate me. I was transferred to another department and the young woman I spoke to informed me that it was not deemed to be reviewed by a case manager because they could not accommodate me because I no longer had warranty coverage. I always bought Honda because they are usually good quality cars. My previous Honda accord had over 230. thousand mile on it before it had any issues and right now I just had over 100 thousand miles on this vehicle and it driving me insane. I feel that this is a defective vehicle and Honda should really assist clients with the repair cost.
A SOLUTION to a Honda CRV 'shuddering/vibration' problem !
Bought my Honda second hand & discovered pretty early that she had a shuddering problem - a vibration at certain speeds/revs, around about the time she was just about to change gears, which progressively got worse over time. Had it flushed by an autotransmission specialist & the problem disappeared - for 10,000ks but returned. Took it to the original dealer (Ireland Honda at Lismore, NSW) who had never come across this problem before (sound familiar?). But I have got to hand it to them, they bent over backwards trying absolutely EVERYTHING to find a solution, but it progressively got worse. Then one of the mechanics heard that the same thing was happening occasionally to Odyssey models. Apparently a routine flush of the transmission only does one half of the transmission, but the other half has grooves that spread outward from the centre (?where the drive shaft is) and that can get crap in the grooves and cause it to shudder. So they flushed that side out and GODS BE PRAISED IT WORKED !!!! Instead of a new transmission costing $5,000, it cost me $200 !!!!!! All thanks and praise go to Robin & the crew at Ireland Honda - much gratitude to them.
2006 Honda CRV - surprised to find out that I had to replace transmission at 85,000 miles. Never had to replace a transmission on any car I have ever owned, American made or other. I have always maintained cars as required.
Car made significant grinding noise between 40 to 50 miles per hour. Car was bought from another party at 50,000 miles.
I have had very good luck with Toyota's and this will definitely cause me to reconsider ever buying a Honda again.
At 75,000 miles on our CRV we find out we had to replace the transmission. Of course, at 75,000 mi, there was no warranty. I find on the internet, this is a common problem with Honda CRVs, but the dealer told me they had never seen this happen (surprise, surprise). We compared several transmission shops (Honda dealer could only replace and not repair the transmission) and they have seen this problem in CRVs, BUT they have never seen in with a car with so little mileage. Honda has a problem and knows it, but won't fix it because the problem (transmission) goes out after the warranty expires. We were all set to purchase another CRV, BUT after this, NEVER again will we purchase a Honda.
Tranny started shuddering and feeling like it would slip out of gear but it never did. The dealer said they could never have it happen. We had a local repair shop change the fluid and it seemed to help for a while but then it started again. We traded the car with only 85000 miles on it.
I had two new Honda's before this one and they were what I expected from Honda.Dealer was the same dealer for all three cars but when the problems started they changed - the friendly went away. We went back to Subaru and it is GREAT.

I bought a Honda because Hondas are supposed to be good quality cars. Prior to the transmission problem with this car, I had never had a transmission problem with any car. I maintain my cars regularly and make repairs as necessary. My last car was a Toyota with 279,000 miles that was in excellent condition until a Ford 150 ran over the entire trunk and totaled it. I am appalled that I should have to replace a transmission at 116,000 miles. I am more disgusted with the cost of $2,358.81, which is more than it would have cost me to take it to an independent transmission shop. The $2,358.81 was the cost of repair AFTER Honda supposedly paid for $1,500 of the cost of replacementwith a rebuilt, not new, transmission. Now I go onto the Honda complaints site & discover that it too is likely to have problems. I think it is disgusting Honda does not stand behind their product. I will never buy another Honda again.
