First of all, I used to own a 2001 Honda CR-V that didn't have a mark on it. I was hit back in April 2014 and had to buy another car. So I bought a used 2006 Honda CR-V that had 43 large paint chips (down to the metal) on the hood and front fenders. I mentioned it to the used Honda dealer and they offered no explanation. I did get them to decrease the purchase price of the vehicle as I told them I would have to repaint the hood and front fenders.
Since then, I have determined that this must have been due to a bad paint job as every time I look at the doors, I notice more marks from other cars and chips around the gasoline tank door. I've also noticed scratches on the doors and on the hood. There are also fresh chips in the paint on the hood, although not all of them are down to the metal. I have not obtained any quotes for repainting the hood and fenders because I now feel that I need to have the entire vehicle repainted. I did not know about the paint problems with Honda vehicles until I searched online this evening. This problem is very frustrating, but I bought the vehicle with the problem and have not read about any possible paint options being offered on 2006 vehicles.
I have owned 3 Hondas since 1994 and will continue to buy their product. My Honda Accord was 16 years old before I sold it and purchased a used 2001 Honda CR-V. I needed a car fast when I had my accident and the 2006 CR-V was the right price at the right time. I am very disappointed to learn of the paint issues but hope to drive my CR-V for many years after a new paint job.
