My wife purchased a 2001 Honda CRV. On August 2, 2003 while driving the car with our family (wife and 2 small children) front passenger tire went flat. I used the jack with the car to change the tire. I first loosened the lug nuts on the ground. I raised the car with the jack. While taking off the tire - the jack collapsed causing the car to fall. This was dangerous and thank god nobody got hurt! the jack was damaged (it is tilted to one side). When I raised the car it was on asphalt and flat ground. I contacted Honda usa directly per my dealer's instructions. I am worried that this jack was designed poorly and/or was defective. Honda replied that they would not do anything. Their response was that I should just buy another jack from them. This is a very dangerous issue. I am very troubled by their lack of concern. They would not even issue me a new jack under the warranty as the car had 42,000 (6K miles over the warranty). I find this troubling too, how would I know the jack was defective until I used it. This was the first time I used it. I am very disappointed and concerned about Honda's lack of care and responsibility.
