Consumer took vehicle to emissions test station, and was told that his failed the emissions test because it was misfiring. Consumer stated that emission officials gave him a paper that stated the codes that made his vehicle not pass the test. Consumer called the Honda dealer, and asked them to give him the meaning of the codes. When they did, and he asked what they meant, he was told that basically they meant that engine was misfiring. Consumer noticed that transmission was shifting weirdly, but he did not pay any attention to it. However, warranty expired.

I have a 1999 Honda CR-V and have had problems with the transmission about 1.5 years after I bought it new. Gears don't shift right, wouldn't go into gear, I had a new transmission installed and still have same problem. The major thing is the clear coat paint keeps peeling alot of little places, 2 areas are big & it's getting the actual paint and rusting. I did purchase (was dumb) the finishing touch system that get's done once a year (I don't really know what they do) and that could be the problem.

I have a 1999 Honda CRV and the transmission has been not going into gear like it should, and I have taken the CRV to the dealership. They keep telling me that have to give it time to change gear. When I first purchased the CRV it wasn't doing that so why is it doing it now. It has been doing this for the past three years.

CR-V 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,520 miles
The transmission went out, of my 1999 Honda CR-V with only 86,520 miles on the vehicle. It was shifting sluggishly even before the warranty expired, I just did not realize that it was not normal until I had a different transmission installed. I had the Honda dealer service my CR-V regularly. The first problem I had was a noise when the all-wheel drive engaged in heavy snow in December of 2000. The dealer "replaced cvt fluid per transmission noise" according to the invoice. The CR-V had 26,375 miles at that service invoice date. The fluids were changed again at 30,000 miles. Check engine light came on at 65,000 miles and fluids were changed. At 72,000 miles the check engine light came on and fluids were changed again! finally at 86,495 miles the transmission was slipping and fluids were changed but at 86,520 the transmission would hardly shift to make it to the dealer and a used transmission was installed. Does Honda stand behind their vehicles and offer any payment or extended warranty? I am in shock that my Honda would have this problem with so few miles, after all the great reports I read before buying a Honda!

Major issues: Extreme vibration in front suspension when starting out from a stop; even with automatic transmission the car rolls backward on the slightest incline when foot is taken off the brake pedal; the tires are very slippery on wet surfaces causing the car to slide and skid

The automatic transmission slams into first gear when slowing to a stop and not completely stopping, but rather, accelerating rapidly after slowing. I have taken it to the dealer and they replace a solenoid and drained and refilled the transmission 3 times. It was better but not eliminated. Then, on April 20, they replaced the ECM and thought they had it fixed. However, it again slammed into first gear as hard as ever. They initially offered to exchange the transmission, but seem to be shying away from that now. Additionally, it will not shift into overdrive for the first 10 minutes of driving when it is cold.
