The contact owns a 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid. The contact stated while driving 63 - 65 MPH, the vehicle experienced a side-to-side collision on the passenger's side that involved another vehicle. The passenger's side curtain air bags deployed, an alarm sounded, and a message advising of a braking failure was displayed. The contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact veered into the grass in the median lane, and the vehicle came to a stop. The contact stated that during the collision, the seat belt failed to retract and fully extended, causing the contact to hit the sternum against the steering wheel. The contact also sustained whiplash. The contact did not seek medical assistance. A police report was filed, but the contact did not have the police report information available. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence, where it was picked up by the insurance company and towed to an inspection site. The dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
