Several times since I bought the car new the collision mitigation braking system has engaged for absolutely no reason. Fortunately no one was directly behind me at the time. It happens very rarely (only twice so far) but all it will take to cause a wreck is once with someone behind me. More often, I will get the flashing indicator lights and alarm to warn that a collision is pending (again with nothing in front of me but open road), but fortunately with no braking.
I have seen other complaints about this and haven't taken it to the dealer because it could be hundreds or even thousands of miles before it will happen again. I hesitate to turn it off because what if I really need it at some point but it may be more dangerous to leave it on.
