I have to say this really scared my wife who was driving the car at the time. When the brakes failed, she managed to get the car pulled over to the side of the road & called me. I instructed her to shut down the car which she did, after a 5 minute restart. Power was restored, and the brakes returned to normal. I then told her to return home, and drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand on the emergency brake lever. As she approached with in 10 feet of our driveway the brakes completely failed again. I tested the car and sure enough the brakes were not functioning at all.

I've read other customer complaints and the Dealer's suggestions, some are a little ridiculous. So I put on my common sense thinking cap, why would cars on average with less than 50K miles have braking problems? The answer is more simple than you think. Solution: Replace your battery!!!!!! Yeah, yeah I know. Today's cars are heavily reliant on computer systems. When your battery gets old & low in power it can affect the cars systems, in this case the brakes. Now I've had problems in the past with a Honda Dealership trying to get a battery prorated because it was under warranty. You know what? Save yourself a bunch of TIME - just go buy a good battery, in my case a German made Interstate battery.

In my opinion batteries only last 3 years. It's just not worth the risk exceeding that time table. I've marked mine and no matter what, it will be replaced again in three years time. Just remember, SOME dealerships will exploit a car that is under warranty. Translation: You will not get your car back for weeks. They will drag out the problem & bill the Honda Factory for thousands of dollars, because this is how they make real money from cars. It's been going on 4 weeks since battery replacement, the systems are all normal with no recurrences for braking problems. I will update here if there is, but I doubt it will happen again.

The brake system failed while driving. Fortunately I was sitting at a drive thru and when I advanced and tried to stop all the system failure lights came on and the car was unable to stop. Had to use the E-brake to stop the car. This is a life threatening issue with the Accord that needs to be addressed.

While slowing down to make a turn, warnings started popping up on the driver display listing numerous failures and the brake system failed. (There were about half a dozen errors but I didn’t catch them all ... "adaptive cruise control problem”, “brake system problem", "vehicle stability assist problem", "collision mitigation system problem", "road departure mitigation system problem", etc. This happened 3 times over the next 15 minutes as we tried to make our way home. Luckily we were on local roads at lower speeds—less than 40.The first time it happened my husband was breaking while approaching a red light at about 5-10 mph but we barely stopped in time. There was a very minimal stopping power. We turned into a parking lot and called Honda. The rep said ‘yes that was a random problem and to turn the car off and restart. The problem will be fixed.’ However it happened 2 more times on that outing. I’m afraid to drive the car.

Update from Mar 18, 2019: I found numerous complaints on this site and others of people having the same issue. Some are told by dealer that there is no problem. Another person had car ‘fixed’ in a different way from the solution my dealer says will fix mine. My car is getting a software update today. I will add more after using for a few days.

Update from Mar 18, 2019: Want to mention I am livid that I’m being charged because their software has a bug that can cause a fatal accident. What does it take to force the company to have a recall to fix this problem? X number of fatalities? Even with a software upgrade I don’t have faith this car is safe to drive. And I can’t conscientiously sell an unsafe car.

Update from Apr 1, 2019: I was remiss in adding the final outcome. After a discussion with the service manager he waived the fee for me. It’s been a couple weeks now and I’ve had no problems.. I am feeling more comfortable driving the car.
