I have to say this really scared my wife who was driving the car at the time. When the brakes failed, she managed to get the car pulled over to the side of the road & called me. I instructed her to shut down the car which she did, after a 5 minute restart. Power was restored, and the brakes returned to normal. I then told her to return home, and drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand on the emergency brake lever. As she approached with in 10 feet of our driveway the brakes completely failed again. I tested the car and sure enough the brakes were not functioning at all.
I've read other customer complaints and the Dealer's suggestions, some are a little ridiculous. So I put on my common sense thinking cap, why would cars on average with less than 50K miles have braking problems? The answer is more simple than you think. Solution: Replace your battery!!!!!! Yeah, yeah I know. Today's cars are heavily reliant on computer systems. When your battery gets old & low in power it can affect the cars systems, in this case the brakes. Now I've had problems in the past with a Honda Dealership trying to get a battery prorated because it was under warranty. You know what? Save yourself a bunch of TIME - just go buy a good battery, in my case a German made Interstate battery.
In my opinion batteries only last 3 years. It's just not worth the risk exceeding that time table. I've marked mine and no matter what, it will be replaced again in three years time. Just remember, SOME dealerships will exploit a car that is under warranty. Translation: You will not get your car back for weeks. They will drag out the problem & bill the Honda Factory for thousands of dollars, because this is how they make real money from cars. It's been going on 4 weeks since battery replacement, the systems are all normal with no recurrences for braking problems. I will update here if there is, but I doubt it will happen again.
