I was on my way home from work and the car started to hesitate. This has happened before but I just thought it was something to do with the car's AWD and cruise control. I only had the car for 4 months. I didn't think that the "Honda" would have something wrong with it, being that I am a lifelong Honda owner. I called the Honda dealership the next morning, and I took it right in. They couldn't get me in until Monday, 2 days later. Therefore, I had to get a rental car that cost me $200. Monday afternoon, the dealership called me to tell me that it was the spark plugs and software. It would be done the next day and it would be around $400.00!

I am not a happy Honda owner right now. I called the dealership where I purchased the car and they told me that the repairs were not covered under my warranty as a used vehicle. They didn't help me at all. I feel like they knew about the bulletin and didn't disclose it to me when I was buying the car. The dealership is Hanover Honda, in Hanover, PA. Very dissatisfied and a little reluctant of the brand Honda, that I have always boasted about.

The check engine light comes on, and flashes. Generating a P030* misfire code. The spark plug on that particular cylinder is oil fouled, causing the misfire. The first time this happened was in the middle of North Dakota driving at highway speeds on the Interstate last winter, and the spark plugs were changed by me on the side of the road. Cylinder three spark plug was very heavily oil fouled. After replacement of the spark plugs, the misfire did not continue at that point, and the check engine light went out. No further action was taken. That happened on November 30th 2016.

The most recent event happened April 17th. The car was running very rough again upon startup, and check engine light flashing. Brought the car to my local mechanic who inspected, and found code P0303 cylinder misfire, and plug very heavily saturated with oil, and fouled. He found the related technical service bulletin 13-078 for this very issue. No other labor action was taken, and the spark plugs screwed back in to their respective cylinders, and the vehicle was towed to a local Honda dealer (Inver Grove Honda). They inspected the vehicle and suggested that the PCM be reflashed, and software updated for misfire concern, and spark plugs replaced. The vehicle has surpassed the warranty in service date, and Honda says that they will not cover any of the repairs. The vehicle went into service February 2010.

I purchased the vehicle used from Sterling McCall Honda in Houston Texas as a certified pre-owned car with 69,000 miles. This inaction on the part of the manufacturer on repairs of a known problem, and a source of potential catastrophic engine failure is very disconcerting, and should be rectified. The vehicle regularly has child/ children in it, and travels through some of the most rugged and sparsely populated areas in North America. A failure that leaves the occupants stranded in isolation of the North Dakota, Montana, Minnesota winter is not an option for us.

I believe that this condition is by Honda's own admission, and loss of the class action lawsuit is grounds for a safety recall rather than just an extended coverage of a technical service bulletin. A safety recall would keep the consumer safe from the quandary that we are in, and having to pay the dealer for a repair they know is a potential problem, yet leaving the customer liable for a very costly repair.

This has happened twice now, in just a little over one year. This time, we were traveling home from vacation when the misfire began and the check engine light came on. We were traveling 1200 miles home and it started within the first couple hundred miles home. It caused us multiple extra stops to check the engine and was quite stressful, not knowing if the car would make it home without causing additional damage. I had to borrow another vehicle while I had mine worked on when I got home.

Purchased this car used in 2013. Was not aware of class action suit nor was I informed during the purchase. To be informed of my having to possibly have the spark plugs changed periodically is a rip off. This car will never be paid for. Horrible customer service Honda.

I think this is due to the oil loss problem - leaks into the valves and fouls plugs. No recall just a secret warranty that noone ever told us about until already paid out of pocket.

Started to have the issue in Nov 2014. The local Honda Dealer replaced 4 spark plugs and said it should be good to go. However, the oil consumption never reduced. I took it back for another Eng Light ON issue:

Chain of Events as follows: 1/25/14, 42,272 - Full Synthetic Oil Change 9/23/14, 47,960 - Engine Light On/Off, sporadically 9/24/14, 47,964 - Full Synthetic Oil Change 11/3/14, 49,375 - Engine Light On/Off, sporadically 11/5/14, 49,402 - Dealer replaced 1 thru 4 Spark Plugs and updated software 2/24/15, 52,975 - Engine Light On/Off, sporadically again 2/25/15, 53,002 - Dealer said oil is low but the low oil light did not turn on (how is that possible?). Dealer did Full Synthetic Oil change 2/25-6/25/15 - Every ~1,000 miles, I got the oil check performed by the dealer but they said oil is burning per Honda... however, they did add 3 qts at ~57k mileage 7/5/15, 60,302 - Engine Light On/Off, sporadically 7/9/15, 60,349 - Dealer replaced #1 Spark plug again. Dealer suggested to replace all 6 spark plugs, again and also replace Piston Rings. The oil is going in the spark plug area, hence high oil consumption. 7/21/15, ??,??? - Scheduled for next service for piston rings replacement.

Accord Crosstour EX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,819 miles

I have a 2010 Honda Crosstour V6 and it just turned 80,819 miles. I've owned 7 Honda's and have never had a problem like this before. My engine light came on (flashing) as well as the VSA light. My car has been serviced for all the maintenance by a Honda dealer, however, this time, I took it to a local repair shop. They found that one of the spark plugs was misfiring and fortunately, they were able to reprogram the software, too. Unfortunately, he told me that there was no oil in the dipstick. After searching additional information, I see that there are many other people having problems with 2008-2010 Honda vehicles with too much oil consumption and spark plugs that are misfiring. My engine light never came prior to the car misfiring so bad that I had to pull over on the side of the road and stop.

Update from Apr 29, 2013: My car now has 85,556 on April 29. The engine is running rough, not all the time but is noticeable when driving on the highway. It feels like it "jumps" which is very similar to what it was doing two months ago. The oil dipstick indicates that oil needs to be added. So, off to the repair shop to see what is going on. I'm not thinking this issue is going to be resolved.
