Car briefly hesitated/loss power for 1-2 seconds driving home on freeway at approx 70mph at 10pm and then did it again about 2 minutes later. Pulled the car into a parking lot about 5 minutes later and the engine had a lot rattling near the valve cover and the accessory belt. Towed car to dealership who said it may be the knock sensor and gave quotes to build a new engine or purchase a used engine from them. Independent Honda specialist denied malfunction of tension pulley, head gasket, timing chain, valves and rocker arms, but found metal chunks after draining oil and said the probably "threw a rod." All of the service was performed on time and at two Honda dealerships. The engine was never tuned or modified in any way.

First, I had to pay when the clutch went out at 24K, because the dealership, the manufacturer, and the extended warrantor said it was my fault. I have been driving manual transmissions in Europe and USA since 1985 and have never had one go out before 75K. Then when my car was barely two years old, the fuel injectors kept stalling it but my specific VIN was not part of the recall; the dealership said it was bad gas, though I had been buying gas at the same place for 20 years. So I paid to replace the injectors and hadn't had a problem since. Then when the car was five years old, the Freon finally leaked out the defective AC condenser last summer but the dealership would have to keep my car for a month to do the warranty work because so many other cars were getting AC warranty work --not in this Texas heat!-- so I paid for new Freon. The car will be six in February and now the engine has failed. But at least the dealership performed the recall work on the fuel pump while they were assessing the engine!
