Rough shifting, constant hunt for gears when accelerating and decelerating, strong engine braking when coasting and annoying overall transmission shifts... I don't understand why a modern transmission at this point in time where so many other car makers have made a smooth shifting tranny, Honda still wants to give you a transmission that shifts like a 1990's sports sedan. This transmission is ROUGH, you feel all the gears shift for 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th... and if you're lucky the 4th to 5th, and 5th to 6th you probably won't feel it....
However, when you are coming to a coast and let the gas go or even slightly press the break, you feel EVERY SINGLE GEAR GO DOWN - ALL THE DOWN-SHIFTS - ONE BY ONE... ROUGH, STRONG, YOU FEEL ENGINE BRAKING AND FEEL ALL THE GEARS... And if you hit the gas, you feel like it confuses the computer and the car hunts for the gear it thinks is appropriate... THIS ALL HAPPENS WHILE YOU FEEL ALL OF IT...
It's terrible... I've been to Honda several times about this... and nothing... This is just the way the car is.
Not to mention, you guys can't forget these vehicles have cylinder deactivation so the EX / EX- L and Touring V6 can drive with 4 or 3 cylinders deactivating some of its cylinders... Now that said, the engine mounts are hydraulic and an expensive repair out of warranty... These ROUGH SHIFTS wreck havoc and wear and tear of these engine mounts (inside info from techs at Honda) who told me its a problem and will be a problem in the future as these vehicles age.
The CVT transmissions from the 4 cylinder accords are a lot smoother, not necessarily better, and some have reported problems, but they are very smooth in comparison (since they have no shifts and less moving parts).
