I bought a new 2017 LX I4 that now has 15k miles. No issue until a few weeks ago. Started hearing a like (turbo charger) whining noise that seemed to be coming from the CVT. I notice it continuously at about 30/40mph. While driving at this speed when I accelerate or decelerate the whining noise increases or decreases accordingly. To further pinpoint I carefully shifted into neutral while at this speed and the noise stopped which led me to the conclusion it was coming from the CVT.
Took to local Honda dealer, after a road test their response was “SOUND COMING FROM THE CVT BELT. IS A KNOWN OCCURRENCE WITH THE NEW CVT TRANSMISSION AMONG DIFFERENT MODELS OTHER THAN ACCORDSâ€
The dealer stated that some do it and some don’t, I stated it didn’t do it for the first 15k I’ve had it and would rather not have to hear it for the next 200k as well as how am I assured it won’t fail at some point.
I have currently filed a case with Honda they recommend I get a second opinion from another dealer which I plan on doing soon.
