This has been an ongoing problem since the car had about 40,000 miles. I do not use the parking brake. When I go in for state vehicle inspection, they test the parking brake by applying it. When the parking brake is applied, the parking brake lever on the caliper does not release. This results in the brake pads applied against the rotor when the brakes are not applied. To fix this problem temporarily, I remove the caliper from the rotor and back the caliper piston back into the caliper (special tool required to rotate piston into caliper). Then I reinstall the caliper and apply the service brake as normal. As long as the parking brake is not applied, there will be no issue. This problem happened on the driver's side, but recently started happening on the passenger side. I have purchased two remanufactured calipers and will install them this weekend. Honda has reported that this is a common problem.
Update from Jul 17, 2022: I installed the remanufactured calipers. The problem is solved. I can use the emergency brake and it does not lock up the caliper piston against the rotor now. Looking at the old calipers, I can see that there is corrosion on the shaft that attaches to the emergency brake lever on the back of the caliper. The corrosion is between the shaft and the bore that the shaft rides in. I could see that the shaft was binding its bore. This is evidently a design problem. Such as the seal that supposed to protect the shaft from getting wet is not working as it should. Only time will tell if the remanufactured caliper will have the same issue as the original part.
