CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2014 Honda Accord is showing signs of an electrical problem with the starter failing soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. It's compounded by reports that the OEM battery doesn't have sufficient amps to start the V6 reliably after a year or two.
For now we are rating this problem with the "Beware" seal because it's occurring so soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. The upshot is when your Accord won't start, that's never good, but especially bad when it's just a few years old.
Also once again, owners are complaining that the 2014 Honda Accord seats are uncomfortable. Uncomfortable seats has been a significant complaint with the Accord since the 2008 model year.

When the car warms up I get a total of four lights ABS the traction control the brake light and the steering control light comes on Also was told that the problem to fix it was the ABS pump and module which no one has in stock six months out to purchase
My fcw sysytem has failed. My ldw, power steering, fcw, tire pressure are on the dash. Honda keeps saying it needs a new vsa module which is expensive. Multiple complaints have been filed for 2013-2017 Honda Accord models with this same issue. It is a safety issue and needs to be replaced by Honda asap. This is a hige safety risk.
I was making a left turn and my steering wheel locked up. I couldn't return the wheel right to straighten out. The car kept going left. I had to put my car in reverse and after some time the steering wheel unlocked while in reverse. I was on a busy street and almost caused an accident. I was on the right lane and it forced me into the left lane. The driver I cut off was able to brake just in time without hitting my car. No lights on dashboard. Not able to reproduce by dealership. Dealership scanned code 85-01 VSA system malfunction and is charging $3k to replace the VSA modulator part #04571-T2F-L11. No other symptoms prior. I have dashcam video as well [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Power steering system failed when starting the car. Steering wheel was jittery/jerky and was near impossible to turn it; it was very difficult to back it out of a parking space to get it towed. This happened once the service shop replaced a relay and the car was driven home without incident. However, the problem came back the next morning when we started the car again; it cannot be safely driven when the steering wheel starts acting up like this.
The power steering has gone out multiple times while driving down the road. It was replaced 20 days ago and less than 600 miles has been put on it and it went out again. My steering wheel locked up and I lost all control of the car. This put myself and others at risk because I have no use of the steering wheel when it goes out. The problem was reproduced and a new rack put on and in less than 600 miles it happened again. There were no warning signs or lights that appeared before it happened. They come on at the time the steering goes out.

I received a diagnosis from Honda Dealership today that my 2014 vehicle has a failed VSA Modulator which regulates brakes and all abs features. They stated it was only from wear and tear on my vehicle. I am only at 109,000 miles. They quoted me a price of $3000 to fix the problem and noted I could not pick up my car without signing a statement that I understood the problem and understood that my brakes would eventually fail without fixing the problem. I cannot currently afford to fix the problem or safely drive my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction and nearly causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and drive into the opposite lane while oncoming traffic was approaching. The contact used an OBD reader and retrieved a code for the steering torque sensor. The contact was informed that the steering torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The power steering seemed to have gotten "stuck" in place or so it felt or seemed for a short time while driving. I have noticed that when I am turning the wheel that I can hear noise when turning as if it's not moving smoothly. If my power steering stops working while driving or gets stuck, then that could pose a serious problem to me and other drivers. The problem is daily now with the sound of every left or right turn. This component has not been inspected by anyone yet. There weren't any warnings.
I had several warning light appear on the dashboard, and the dealership said that my VSA modulator was starting to go bad. This device controls power steering, anti-lock brakes and other functions. While driving to the Honda service department, the brakes were very low and the steering was loose (dangerous conditions). After doing some research, I found that Honda recalled the VSA modulator on other models, but not for my 2014 Accord. Many other owners of the same model stated that their VSA modulators failed around 34k-36k miles (right at the end of warranty). I still have the original VSA modulator, the dealer just reset the warning lights and sent me on my way. I am writing to request an investigation for Honda to extend the VSA modulator recall to more models, such as the 2014 Accord.
The EPS on my 2014 Honda Accord EX-L did not perform its primary functions. Such as steering. The steering wheel became very difficult to move. The wheel was extremely stiff and vibrated at the slightest attempt to turn in either direction. I am grateful this did not happen while I was driving on the road.
In my 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid, the power steering light suddenly lit up while driving and the steering became stiff. It has been coming on and off for few months now. For 99% of the time the car runs normal, no issue, no dash light etc. I replaced the EPS unit at Honda dealer, it went away for a while, now it has come back again. It cam happen at any day of the week atleast 2 to 3 times a week. The steering goes stiff with light on, stays stiff for 30 seconds to sometimes over a minute on highway then it goes off on its own. It is a major safety risk on highway when suddenly the light comes on and steering goes stiff, it gets very hard to mauver or change lanes during this time until it goes off and returns to normal.
Driving normally, while the car is doing 30mph power steering light comes on and steering wheel locks and becomes hard to turn the wheel. Light will go off randomly and resume normal driving. Looks like it may be an electrical issue as I checked and this car is known for this problem. Last month, my driveshaft broke off and couldn't continue driving, this was a known recall and I went to get it fixed. I do not feel safe driving my car with this known problem and you all should request Honda to recall this issue.
The power steering system of the car (68000 miles on odometer) abruptly stopped working while pulling away from the curb at the airport. Car was turned off and restarted; the steering warning light which had appeared went away. Steering worked well for a couple of weeks when it failed again while driving 60 MPH on the interstate. This was very scary and dangerous to myself and other motorists! Fortunately I was able to steer across lanes to right berm and stop. Car was restarted and taken to service location. The steering warning light was cleared and we were told to take the car to a Honda dealer. Honda dealer had car for over a week but could not get steering to 'act up'. For approximately the next 11 months, steering would randomly go off without warning. This happened in parking situations and also while turning on city roads. Eventually steering warning light could no longer be cleared by turning off motor and restarting. Honda dealer replaced entire steering rack and assembly for over $3500. Since steering system has been replaced, we have had no steering problems.
When at low speeds especially when pulling into parking spot with wheel turned, wheel seems to stick, heat turns off and once parked, power steering makes squeaking noise. Has occurred multiple times. Realize there is already an investigation into this. Unsure what issue may be. Will likely take to Honda to ensure safe operation of vehicle.
Power steering randomly goes out while the vehicle is in motion, sometimes on the interstate at high speed. Honda has "fixed" this 4 times and still has issues. Turning the car off and back on temporarily resolves the issue.
Car occasionally experiences unintended acceleration. This happening today 9/4/2022. Car was brought to a complete stop. It suddenly accelerated while the foot was still on the brake, causing it to rear-end the car in front. Thankfully there no physical injuries reported (yet) We had experienced this a couple of time before. I had contact Honda as well as the local dealer and they cleared the car with no changes.
Replaced VSA modulator at 100k, drove for 7 months, steering locked up as I was driving down highway. I was able to control and took to dealership where they said VSA modulator needed to be replaced again. Additionally, starter went out at 168k. Not the quality we expect from Honda.
The power steering stops working and the display on the screen goes blank leaving you with no power steering momentarily to steer the vehicle. Putting the driver and other at risk because you don-??t have full control of the vehicle. In my situation after the vehicle seems to shut off jerking the steering wheel in your hands then it restarts again on it own. I-??m in the process of scheduling a appointment with a repair shop for diagnosis. I did not notice any warning lamps, not to say there weren-??t any it-??s that I didn-??t notice them.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request" Computer System Firmware, available for inspection, currently at dealership. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk" Multiple dashboard functions not functioning at random. Appears related to a firmware update provided under another recall (Bulletin 15-055:6ZS00EPS Software Update). It is suspected due to timing of incident onset, beginning the day after service. Firmware was installed by dealership service dept. It is unknown at this time all of the buttons affected. Since buttons on steering wheel are affected, and cruise control is also located there, this could pose a severe hazard if cruise control does not respond to a disable request. Cell Phone, radio, display change functions do not work from dashboard. There was a follow up software update (on same EPS system) performed by dealership on June 30, 2020 that improved condition for one day, returning to same issues on the 2nd drive. Details of this update: previous version: 39990-T2F-A010 Update program: 39990-T2F-A020 program part number: 39990-T2F-3050-M1in control module 39980-T2F-A014 Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center" Yes. Jim at the dealership confirmed the issue within 30 seconds of his investigation. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others" Yes, dealership service center. Will be at dealership 2022-07-11 to 2022-07-15 (estimated) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No prior indication until a dashboard function is used. First appeared 2022-05-17
The auto is hard to steer. I have not had an incident yet but it is increasingly hard to steer. I received a questionnaire a out this issue earlier this year. Auto steering was fine at that time. That is no longer the case.
