CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2014 Honda Accord is showing signs of an electrical problem with the starter failing soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. It's compounded by reports that the OEM battery doesn't have sufficient amps to start the V6 reliably after a year or two.
For now we are rating this problem with the "Beware" seal because it's occurring so soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. The upshot is when your Accord won't start, that's never good, but especially bad when it's just a few years old.
Also once again, owners are complaining that the 2014 Honda Accord seats are uncomfortable. Uncomfortable seats has been a significant complaint with the Accord since the 2008 model year.

Body: The tension bar does not open the car trunk lid all the way which more often drops down and hit the person's head or face who is putting stuffs in the trunk assuming it is fully open all the way. I did got hit twice by the corner and edge of the trunk lid on the forehead and left temple. The latter caused bruise and pain that took me a week to recover. Should change weak tension bar to strong gas tube operation. Engine: The car vibrates and rattles upon putting on reverse gear even after at least a minute warmup in the morning. The dealer said it is normal for this type of car? this is very embarrassing for a newer car. I never see this in a Toyota cars that I owned: Sienna, avalon... seats: Driver seat is not well designed and causing awkward and uncomfortable and fatigue position while driving. There is insufficiency of support for lumbar are ( the current one is too soft and sitting back so there is virtually no support at all). Again Toyota cars seem not having this kind of problem. Also, the driver window is not tall enough that even a 5'6" person can bang his head to the top of the window when getting up and out of the drive seat. It should be 2" taller to avoid this problem. They should put cushion to the top edge and safety grip handle at the minimum. Driving condition: The car seems to wander when running on freeway at normal speed.
Vehicle won't start on random occasions.I drive the vehicle daily, but every so often I have to jumpstart it. I had the battery checked at the service station near my home and also at the Honda dealer in my city. I purchased a small jump pack to ensure I'm never stranded. This has happened numerous times, after only being away from the vehicle an hour or 2 and after I returned form a brief stay out of town.
My car has been to Honda twice for the same problem. The first incident was June 20th at 5pm at whole foods in phoenix. The car would turn over then die. The next morning I took it to Honda (it started and drove). I picked it up at 5pm, they stated they could find nothing wrong with the car. As I'm sitting in the car at Honda the car died and wouldn't start. The next day they told me it was the starter and replaced it and I picked up the car Friday June 23rd. The car was fine until Sunday around 3pm at safeway on phoenix where the car would start and then die. I took an uber home and scheduled a tow. When I got back to safeway the car started and I drove it home. Monday morning June 26 I took it to my local mechanic who diagnosed the fuel pump to be bad after two days. I towed it back to Honda on June 28th to have the fuel pump changed under warranty. They had to order the part and I did not get my car back until July 8th. On my way to work Tuesday July 11th the car died while on the freeway interchange between I10W and I17N and was forced to the side of the rode (there's barely a shoulder) and wait for a tow as the car would no start. I was towed to showcase Honda where the car is now. This last incident was more than just an inconvenience it was completely unsafe. This is the third time they have had the car and I have almost no confidence they are capable of figuring out what is wrong with this car (that's under warranty) and I honestly don't feel safe driving that car any longer.
Initial problem with push button start - would not start on first push. Started at about 55K mileage. Problem has worsened - may start on first push, but sometimes takes many pushes in combination with brake release and depressing or just pushing without touching the brake - then braking and pushing. Very intermittent in terms of how many pushes - sometimes just a couple, sometime 10 or more! now at just under 60K mileage, car cannot be trusted. Error codes come up as 85-01 vsa system malfunction and 61-11 vsa modulator control unit power source circuit (ic) low voltage and B-1240 - a problem in the mode control linkage door or motor. These error codes do not seem related to the push button start issue, but is another problem to investigate and fix. The push button problem happens to many people and Honda is aware of it. My mechanic called his inside contact at the local dealer and they keep starters on hand for this. They will not handle as a warranty or 'recall' type problem and one has to pay a lot for the fix - starter replacement can be close to $1K!! another Honda contact knows of this issue - it is because the starter on the Accord, especially the 2.4L engine, is mounted below the exhaust manifold, heats up significantly and begins to fail - depends more on the # of starts than mileage, apparently. My Accord is started many times per day. This issue should be fixed under a recall event, I believe, but I must get mine fixed now!!! not good! also a problem from day 1, is the forward warning camera gets hot, here in southern cal, and will not work until the ac system cools it down. Very unsafe and worthy of further review as well.

Vehicle does not start when push to start. It click couple time but did not start. It happening more often than last year and got strange last night again.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. After driving more than 15 miles at highway speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate when depressing the accelerator pedal. Also, the instrument panel warning indicators, including the check engine indicator, illuminated. The vehicle was taken to open road Honda in Edison, NJ, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.
Experiencing an intermittent problem when starting the car sometimes you turn the key and it will not start so far it has started but one time it was several minutes before it would start concern that this could be an issue that will leave me or a family member stranded-- the car is so new I don't think this should be a problem that we would have to deal with-- of course this just started happening after the warranty has run out
I've been having issues starting car for approx. 1 1/2 yrs as everybody who has filed a complaint for this starter issue. I am a struggling american just like many, got let go from 19 yrs of service and finally got a part time job at an afb, bad timing, my 1st at work and the starter issue got to the point that now it simply doesn't start, it used to take up to 20 tries, had a hard time getting tow truck into base because of restrictions. My previous car was having problems passing smog test, so decided to buy a reliable vehicle, had many options to buy from but Honda had a reputable legacy. Now I stress out because a 2 1/2 yr old car is giving tons of Honda owners the same started problem. We are being forced to take vehicles back to dealership and pay $900 plus labor because ey are the only ones that sell starters for this make and model, there is no aftermarket parts. It is not fair nor right that because of Honda defective parts fail and we are being made responsible for. When paying for a $30,000+ vehicle people expect peace of mind and not unreliable lemons. It may not be a serious safety issu but this starter issue should be categorized as defective issue and there should be a recall because is leaving hardworking struggling americans stranded everywhere. Is it a coincidence that this problem starts right around 36,000 miles. It is possible that it's a matter of the starter units getting too hot or bad wiring but brand new cars should not be having electrical issues, that's just validates that this are faulty electrical starters and Honda should be held responsible for it, there ought to be a recall for defective electrical units.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. When the push start button was depressed, an abnormal grinding noise could be heard and the vehicle would not start. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000. The VIN was not provided.
I started having an issue with my car about 2 weeks ago. My car has the new push button start and I started having problems getting it to crank. While stationary it would take anywhere from 1 to 10 attempts(sometimes more) before it would crank. I have not even owned this car 3 years. The dealership told me I needed a new starter. This has happened to me in parking lots, on the side of the road, at gas pumps and at home. You are required to turn your car off at gas pumps but with this problem you are afraid to turn your car off in fear of it not starting again.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the rear passenger side power lock failed to unlock the door. As a result, the door had to be unlocked manually. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear passenger side door power actuator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred with the front passenger side and the rear driver side doors. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,366.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. While the vehicle was parked and the interior of the vehicle heated up, the forward collision and lane change warning indicators independently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the heat in the vehicle caused the forward collision and lane change warning indicators to illuminate. There was a warning about the issue in the owner's manual. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 15,500. Updated 05/30/17
Jan 25, 2017 - ridgewood NJ - engine TL* the contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the engine failed to start. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The failure mileage was 14,000.
Flashing dashboard: Fcw, engine light on, stabilizer control light, ABS- all the lights flashing on dash board, unable to start card. Brake pedal very hard. Car was parked on street in front of home. Fifth time this has happened the dealer claims it's the fourth time. Car problem has never been fixed. The dealer blames alarm department. The alarm department claims dealer always blames them. However, I bought the car from the dealer, they are responsible for permanently fixing this problem. The dealership has not fixed this problem since it began in 2015. This falls inside of 18 months lemon law. I am not a mechanic but it seems to me that this is a ongoing electrical problem that the dealership seems not receptive about it.
My 2014 Honda Accord has been leaving me stranded because the car kills the battery. It started last year and the dealer said the battery was fine, and left it at that. Now a year later the batter is still testing good but the car has left me 3 times in one day in 2 different occasions. I permanently have to cart jumping cables just I. case. I'm so sad to see that I'm paying and I've been such a faithful Honda client and this is really devestating.
2014 Honda Accord fails to start periodically. The dealership offers no solution to the problem if there is no error code and acts if this is the first time it has happened to the Accord. Time for another recall.. this problem is all over the internet.
The right turn camera that is designed to help eliminate the blind spot is deactivated during high heat.,in phoenix AZ "high heat" means direct sunlight at over 85 degrees. When I reported the dangerous condition that this outage creates for the drivers of our car they just said, "yeah, it takes a while to cool off." Sometimes 15 minutes. Meanwhile I don't have the safety feature I paid for. Can you imagine how often my safety camera shuts off now that we are "in season?" daily. Literally every day my right turn blind spot camera shuts down with a warning that pops up on the dashboard that eliminates our ability to see other warning sensor lights. I honestly can't believe that Honda is knowingly allowing this defect to remain. A high heat sensor going off at 85 degree ambient temp is absurd. They said, nope...totally normal. I'd say that a camera helping eliminate the blind spot that results in many accidents, should be working at all times. Again, shame on Honda. I don't know where else to turn.
