CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2014 Honda Accord is showing signs of an electrical problem with the starter failing soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. It's compounded by reports that the OEM battery doesn't have sufficient amps to start the V6 reliably after a year or two.

For now we are rating this problem with the "Beware" seal because it's occurring so soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. The upshot is when your Accord won't start, that's never good, but especially bad when it's just a few years old.

Also once again, owners are complaining that the 2014 Honda Accord seats are uncomfortable. Uncomfortable seats has been a significant complaint with the Accord since the 2008 model year.

I turned my car on one day and the light with the car and a squiggly line under started flashing then moments later the tire pressure light with the exclamation mark came on then weeks following the steering wheel light with the ! came on. I took my car to the tire place to check and they said nothing is wrong and after months of going back almost weekly at this point one of the techs says he heard other Honda Accord's were having the same problem and that it may be a false reading. Then after some weeks my ABS and brake light came on. At first it was only in the afternoon or later these light would come on but now it's whenever. Sometimes they go off after I start driving but then they eventually come back on. I looked on google and it appears this has happened to others stating there was some kind of faulty box thingy that is used to communicate between the lights going off and the car. I don't have the money to get someone to do all of this and if there are others having the same problem did Honda use a faulty part as others are saying? please help

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. Upon starting the vehicle, the emergency brake, ABS, traction control, tire gauge, and steering assist warning indicators illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the electronic brake control module was defective. The contact took the vehicle to capitol Honda (745 West capitol expressway, capitol expressway auto mall, san jose, ca 95136, (408) 675-5884) and was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty and that there were no recalls. The dealer provided an estimate for the diagnostic and the contact refused to have the vehicle serviced at the dealer. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they could not assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,100.

While driving the car at 65 miles per hour, vehicle auto braked suddenly causing car from behind to near miss my rear of my vehicle. Car the alarmed on ABS, stability control, lane departure, forward collision, adaptive cruise, braking, power steering, vehicle stability and hill start problem. Took car to middletown Honda of NY. Dealer identified problem as vsa module failure. Cost to replace is $1550 plus labor. Vsa module failure is a common problem and should be identified as a safety recall. Car that nearly hit me was driven by off duty police officer who was not happy. Took car immediately to dealer for service. Dealer did not have part to correct problem. Dealer demanded that car remain at dealer due to being unsafe to drive. Dealer was kind enough to give me a loaner car until repairs can be made. This is a serious safety issues!

The yaw sensor went out on the stability control system, out taking everything with it'ABS, stability control, forward collision, lain watch, and the power staring monitor. You could feel the ABS motor working for no reason even without braking. Honda replaced the ABS control module to fix the problem. My concern is as expensive as it was, I'm worried others will not be able to afford the fix and we will have other cars out there without the basic safety systems in place.

Please note that there was a recall for the 2013 Honda Accord for similar issues. The vehicle will at times not start and only make a grinding noise when depressing the start button, this still occurring after changing the battery and starter twice in addition to the fob battery. I speculate that the braking system may contribute to this issue as sometimes the car will start after pumping/pressing the brake pedal a few times or just holding it after initial attempt to start the car (very frustrating). New issue involves the car starting while only pressing the brake and moving the gear shifter (dangerous as a kid can start the vehicle without pressing the start button). Have reported the issue to Honda (local/California main) and spoke to a Honda representative yesterday (5/7/2019) to no avail. Please issues a recall for these cars having this issue before someone gets hurt, or worse, looses their lives. This has been going on for years and is almost on a daily basis, last even was today.

3 lights illuminated on my dash, traction control, power steering, and TPMS. Dealer says its the ABS module. At only 53,000 miles, I believe this is premature failure. Poor design on Honda behalf. Same with the small oem battery Honda puts in these vehicles. Also failed prematurely. Honda needs to issue recall for ABS module. Vehicle was in park and took 5 attempts to start the vehicle, vehicle would start and stall, after 5 attempts vehicle stayed on with 3 warning lights and was able to drive away.

While driving on a highway (2014 Honda Accord, 42000 mile) warning lights for brakes, elec. Stability control (vsa vehicle stability assist), power steering, and abc came on and stayed on for while. They started then to go away for a few miles then stay on most of the time. The car ABS system started acting up when braking and ABS does not engage. I had it checked at the dealer on August 21, 2018 and they indicated that the vsa modulator needs replacement and it is communicating with other systems and components and causing all 4 warning lights to come on. They said the repair will cost $1565. This failure is very premature for such a car than had only 42,000 miles at the time it occurred.

'takata recall' recently I purchased a 2014 Honda Accord from a dealership which made this my first car ever. Everything was going right up until 3 months of me having the car. My brakes went out without me knowing because someone from that dealership broke off the little chip that makes the squeaking noise. I took it to the dealer to explain to them what had happen showing them the evidence and they made it seem like I was lying while driving on hwy 16 I ended up having a blowout on the passenger side of my car and messed my front fender up. Two(2)months after that in March I purchased a brand new battery because the battery that came with the car had died out. Prior to that I never knew the alternative was the reason for the battery to constantly die out. On March 15 2018 I went back to the dealership to let them know and even inspect my car when one of the manager came to talk to me he said there was absolutely nothing they could do because my warranty was only 30days. Now not knowing anything about a warranty how am I suppose to know or knew all of these problems were going to happen. When I asked about a manufacturer warranty I was told I didn't have one and they were not going to help me with my car. May 10 2018 my friend found out she had a recall on her starter and went and got another one. Now when I locked up the Honda recalls I seen there were two: One for the battery and the second was for the starter. I contacted the dealership again leaving voicemails after voicemail until I couldn't take it anymore and just went up there. As I walk in I asked to speak to the person who was in a hire position. As we are talking he ask me how long I had the car, how many miles, and the question of all when is your warranty expired. After he found out the warranty was expired there was nothing he could do for me. I pay 400 and haven't had the car for a year yet.

The vehicle does not always start when you pressed the start button and only clicks. This can be dangerous if the car stalls in a busy intersection or rail road crossing and the vehicle cannot be started. To start the vehicle (keyless w/fob), you have to press the brake and press the start button. It appears that the brake pedal pressure and the starting of the car may be part of the issue as we have noticed that the car will more likely start when the brake pedal is soft vs. Hard. Not sure if the issue is isolated to the start button, brake master cylinder, both or the electronics that interacts when these two. Any assistance that you may provide with this issue is appreciated. Thank you

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Our 2014 Honda Accord (purchased "certified pre-owned") has an intermittent issue. First of all the car has 53,000 miles. Have already had to replace the battery; since replacing the battery, a myriad of lights come and go on the dash for approximately 1 month. Now the lights are staying on - brake, ABS, fcw, ldw, steering assist. Dealer says "probably" the ABS module ($1400). Launched a complaint about this issue with Honda America - they tell me to take it in and have it checked. My question(s) were (a) by spending $1400, is this going to fix it or will it "probably" fix it. (B) how long before it happens again?- keep in mind the first one lasted 53,000 miles (C) how dangerous is this" no answers to any of these questions were answered; the only thing that was clear was that it wasn't a widespread issue because the nhsta or Honda hadn't issued any kind of tsb or recall. I thought it was somewhat telling when I called another dealership, spoke with the desk person in service. While over the phone, explained the lights that were on - the answer of "it's the ABS module" was instant. For something that isn't "common" or widespread, this was a very quick reply. Also a google search turns up other issues just like the one we are having. Just wonder how safe this is"

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. While driving 20-30 mph around a curve, the auto brakes engaged and an unknown warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to vidmar motor company (600 N albany ave, pueblo, co 81003, (719) 544-5844) on several occasions, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The dealer's general manager was taken for a test drive, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 17V418000 (electrical system) as a possible cause. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 500.

I noticed that brakes were not working properly and 4 different warning lights came out at the same time(ABS, brake, vsa, electronic power steering), I went to braman Honda dealer located at 7000 coral way miami, fl.33155 on 11/20/17, they changed vsa modulator and they charged me $1263.09. Since this have to do with safety and the vehicle only had 29,000miles, I decided to contact american Honda but they did not help me to pay for the repair because the warranty was expired. I really would like someone to investigate this issue and call for safety recall asap since I could be dead. I know that many other Honda from same year are reporting same complaint. Thanks in advance.

I have been doing the service with Honda of concord since I bought the car from them since 2015. My car tires got bursted this year(2017) and I went with my insurance through Honda of concord collision center to fix the same. During Jan 2017, the Honda checked all my tires as per my insurance fixes only 2 tires and never reported any issues with my other 2 tires. Even the service station, where I had been doing my service since 2015, did not suggest or did my tire alignment. However, proactively, I did my tire alignment @ 26000 miles, when Honda of concord collision center replaced my tires. After that I have done tire rotations, routine check with oil fills with Honda of concord service station. Since my service, in the past one month, I had my TPMS light on for 3 times, every time I called Honda, they asked me to reset it myself in the car, which I did. But, I felt before my warranty expires around 36 K miles, I called in Honda for appointment Sep 2017. Today, when I dropped my car, Honda service guys called me and said, I own responsibility in changing my tires which has wear and tear cover till 60 K miles and I should take responsibility to change brakes at rear end, fluids, etc etc.. when I asked about my warranty on tires and brakes.. they were reluctant and said its not safe to drive all of a sudden. I had given car for service only a month back, where I asked them to check everything and I believe, they did not do anything, since they are reporting me now to drive as unsafe and not at the time of tire rotation or checks. This is very bad and dint expect from Honda

As I made a right turn to the parking spot with my right foot on the pedal I slowed down to 2-3 mph with foot still on the brake. At about 1-2 feet from the concrete retaining wall limiting the parking spot I pressed on the brake for the final stop. Car accelerated wildly and hit the concrete retaining wall ahead. My foot had never left the brake. Air bags did not inflate. The vehicle was in motion 2-3 mph, on a parking lot. Acceleration happened when I was breaking.

When braking, the vehicle sometimes decides to spontaneously, violently, and unexpectedly take control and lock-up the brakes causing the passengers to be thrown forward and the vehicle to stop in a manner not expected by following traffic (or the driver). This puts the vehicle and passengers at risk of rear-end collision. This seems to occur when the vehicle perceives a nearby object as a hazard (ie vehicle ahead might slow to turn right, , vehicle in next lane appears to be traveling at a much slower speed, when changing lanes to pass a slow-moving vehicle in the lane driver is departing). This has happened on at least four occasions in the last several months. I see at lease four similar cases filed on the NHTSA site (10892728, 10895657, 10521912, 10503138), also in 2013 and later Honda Accord.
