While driving my 2013 Honda Accord my steering wheel locked up twice after a dash light came on. This almost resulted in a crash both times I was able to stop. To get the wheel to unlock I had to turn the car off restart it and it would work properly agan. This is a V6 Accord and has approx 38000 miles on it well maintained. Please help this could cause serious injuries or death if locks up especially on the highway. This needs to be a recall. Note that I was making left turns both times.

There was total power steering failure while doing parallel parking twice in an hour today (5/30/2016). It too much effort to turn even a little. We were lucky we were not on highway or street. Restarting the car seemed to resolve first failure. Second failure corrected itself upon driving couple of feet. Now, I am afraid to drive the car till this problem is fixed as it may result in crash.

I was on a road trip. My car started pulling to the left. Then it became extremely hard to turn the wheel to the right. I pulled into a fast food parking lot, and when I turned loose of the wheel, it spun to the left. I continued to my destination with both hands tight on the wheel, scared to even change lanes. I had called ahead for an appointment with a wheel alignment shop. When I got there, they put the car on a hydraulic lift, up several feet in the air, turned the key on, and turned the steering wheel. The wheel and the tires were spinning to the left. They had no idea what was wrong. I called the local Honda dealership. I was told there that they had no idea, and had to call Honda. They determined the electronic power steering was faulty, and had to replace the power steering gear assembly. Even though the car was out of warranty (I had 37,000 miles on it), Honda paid for all but $182 of the cost. I was told it would have been a $2,100 repair.

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering box failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000. The VIN was not available.

While driving the vehicle on city streets, the power steering fails, making it very difficult to steer the vehicle and requires a great amount of effort to control the steering. A power steering message appears on the dashboard. After stopping the vehicle and shutting it down, then restarting it, seems to tentatively correct it.this has happened three times in three days. I am very concerned with our safety in driving this car!

While driving on a city street at 30 mph experienced loss of power steering and eps warning light simultaneously came on. Turned vehicle off and restarted as manual instructed; warning light went out and power steering appeared ok. Later the same day while driving on a city street at 30 mph the eps warning light came on and vehicle was once again very difficult to steer due to loss of power steering. The next day light was still on and power steering did not work. Vehicle had to be repaired. Dealer stated it needed a "software update" and they found a "loose pin fit at eps control unit".

The power steering failed at 62K miles with no earlier indications/warnings there was an issue. I could not move the steering wheel and had to have it towed at my expense to a Honda dealer. Fortunately, this occurred in my driveway without my children in the vehicle. The repair took one week (had to order parts, holiday, staffing shortage) and was covered under an extended warranty through Honda due to a known issue at a cost of approximately $1,500. The purpose of this complaint is for awareness. 2013 Honda Accord owners should be aware of this potentially dangerous issue.

Honda has notified of an electronic power steering torque sensor defect which could cause loss of power steering. They provided a software update which only retains partial steering control and that the vehicle would still be disabled, I would be stranded and would have to be towed. I have requested a replacement of the electronic power steering assembly to prevent my having an accident. They acknowledge the safety defect but are only willing to replace the defective parts if there is a failure. After discussions, they offered to pay half of the cost (approx. $500) but I can't afford $500. I would like assistance in correcting this safety issue.

I would like to make a complaint about a serious safety concern that happened to me recently while driving my Honda Accord 2013, luckily I was able to avoid an accident.I am afraid to drive my car for fear for my life.I was driving in Pennsylvania on rt 33 South traveling at about 65 mph when my steering wheel locked.I had to lean into the steering wheel with all my body weight to try to get it to turn but it was locked.I was able to stop the car and shut it off.after a few minutes I started it back up and it returned to normal, I was lucky that part of the road I was driving on was straight and curve or mountain section like most of Pennsylvania.I am afraid that this will happen against and I won't be so lucky.please investigate my vehicle and work with Honda to get this fixed so no one has to die. It more than this, I been having problems with the radio, sunroof, kieys alarm go on went I was driving.

10/27/2015 suddenly lost steering ability while vehicle was moving under 15 mph. This was on a city street. Steering became stiff and almost unmovable. Turned the car off and restarted. Steering functioning again. 10/28/2015 received in the mail from Honda a product udate concerning the eps torque sensor(dtc53-1 or 53-2).I will upload the Honda.this Accord has less than 20000 miles on it. My power steering failed twice in one day. While trying to parallel park the engine was running and the power steering shut off and was very difficult to turn. This continued for about 10 minutes then it corrected itself. The same thing happened about 30 minutes later. Each time it was from a stationary position on a city street trying to parallel park. I am lucky that it didn't happen on the highway.

On 10/09/2015 the eps system indicator came on and the steering wheel became hard to turn while re-parking the vehicle in a driveway. On 10/10/2015 the eps system indicator came on and the steering wheel became hard to turn while pulling up to a fast food drive-through window. On 10/12/2015 the vehicle was taken to the service department at the Honda dealership from which it was purchased. On 10/15/2015 repair was completed at no charge. Invoice states: Cst: Customer states check esp light has been reported on, and stiff steering intermittently caused by 53601-T2G-A02 dtcs 53-01, 53-02. Verified stiff steering. I am driving between 20-30 mph. The power steering light comes and immediately loses power steering. I am a big guy and I have to use a lot of strength to move to the side of the road. I shut off car for a few minutes and restart car. The problem went away. This happened 3X time in the last month

On July 2, 2015 while driving 40 mph, power steering failed and indicator light came on. Had car towed to dealer next day, software update done, and I was told the problem should not reoccur. On Oct 6, 2015, while turning into a parking lot, it failed again. Had car towed to dealer and told they will now replace gearbox. I asked what was causing this and how this fix will work and was told they don't know! they're following instructions from the manufacturer. This is very unsafe, and appears Honda does not truly know how to fix this.
