CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2014 Honda Accord is showing signs of an electrical problem with the starter failing soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. It's compounded by reports that the OEM battery doesn't have sufficient amps to start the V6 reliably after a year or two.

For now we are rating this problem with the "Beware" seal because it's occurring so soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. The upshot is when your Accord won't start, that's never good, but especially bad when it's just a few years old.

Also once again, owners are complaining that the 2013 Honda Accord seats are uncomfortable. Uncomfortable seats has been a significant complaint with the Accord since the 2008 model year.

Hi.

The steering wheel of my 13 Honda Accord was merging left from beginning (I took it new) and today just during driving it started turning left itself and you have to hold it with force to go straight.

Thanks.

My 2013 Honda Accord has lost the power steering. While driving, if I loosen my grip on the steering wheel, the wheel will turn fully to the right. This began as the car pulling slightly right and resisting turning left. Now, it is not derivable. Even when pulling into a parking spot and stopping, with foot on the brake, the wheel will still turn itself completely to the right. What needs to be done to get Honda to take responsibility for this obvious defect?

I am the original owner of a 2013 Honda Accord. I travel about 30K a year. I have been extremely meticulous with the exterior and maintenance of the vehicle. During the course of my travels, I have on at least 4-5 occasions had difficulty changing lanes. More specific, while trying to make a lane change at low speed (5-35 mph) I was unable to turn the wheel to make a lane change. The ability to steer came back quickly, but for a second or two, a turn was not possible.

This past week, on 10/30/2019, a similar scenario transpired. I was stopped at a "STOP" sign and needed cross an intersection and make a left turn. Just when it was time to turn, the steering wheel locked, not allowing me to turn left. As there was an oncoming vehicle, I was able slow down but struck a curb with my right front tire. The impact beat up the rim pretty bad and deflated the tire. I replaced the tire with the spare and headed to a near mechanic, about 1 mile away. The mechanic advised me not drive the vehicle.

The damage included cracked rim, power steering rack and electronic steering box to name a few. In researching parts, I came across many incidents in which a 2013 Honda Accord has had failed steering capability. I contacted Honda (Case #10012315), they did not acknowledge a problem now, nor in the past and could not comment on problems that other people have had. I was told that the vehicle was old and had a lot of miles. They told me "you had an accident, why are you calling Honda, you should be calling an Insurance company". Honda would not do anything. I expressed my regret in not purchasing a future Honda vehicle... Shame on Honda. The last thing I wanted was to go through insurance. Have not got totals yet, but looking at $3-5K possibly.

Last week, I experienced steering issues and brought to my local dealership. If I removed my hands from the steering wheel my car would go either right or left and not continue straight. My steering wheel was very stiff and I had to use force to turn the wheel. I had to hang on tight/keep the wheel straight to drive.

My VIN # is associated with the Warranty Extension EPS Torque Sensor but my car did not populate the codes associated with this warranty, just like many complaints I have seen online. I am now responsible to pay $3,000 out of pocket for this service.

I contacted the manufacturer today. Honda said because my car did not pull the codes they can't do anything for me.

The dealership did let me know my car is unsafe to drive as I could lose control at any time.

The dealership let me know I needed my power steering gear box replaced.

I've never had issues any with my car in the past; don't have too many miles on it either - just about 37000 miles. As I was driving with my family; I felt the steering becoming very hard and Power Steering Lamp lit bright. I slowed down and carefully managed to pull over to the side. It was extremely risky and dangerous.

Called up the Honda Customer Support the next day and they didn't have a clue about it as if I'm the first one to have this issue however there are tons of similar issues reported by existing and previous customers who've faced this issue.

How can Honda ignore this and put people's life in risk? And there's no recall on it either.

THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 'RECALL' ON THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT ON THESE 2013 HONDA'S YEARS AGO! I COULD HAVE DIED TODAY!

I was driving to the beach Seaside, Oregon on HWY 26. About 45 miles from Seaside I started to round a curve and when I went to turn the wheel it felt very strange and I noticed my car was not going to be staying on the road so I YANKED THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT TO STAY ON THE ROAD. From there on I knew I was in trouble! I was driving about 65 mph like the rest of the cars in a single lane. I then had to slow down to about 50 mph because I knew my car was NOT working the way it should. It continued to get worse all the way to Seaside. I was relieved when traffic slowed down to 20 mph the last 25 minutes into Seaside. I barely got the wheel to turn into my driveway. NOW I MUST HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO PORTLAND, OREGON FOR REPAIR AT THE DEALERS.

THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE IT COMPLETELY GO OUT ON THE FREEWAYS! IT IS 2020 AND NO RECALL ON THIS YET IS UNACCEPTABLE. WE HAVE BEEN HONDA OWNERS FOR 35 YEARS! I always purchased Honda because I felt SAFE IN IT, NOT ANYMORE!! WHERE IS THAT RECALL???

2013 Honda Accord with sudden power steering failure. Local shop found security bulletin 15-056 related to replacement of steering rack. Now dealership is saying mine is not covered because the correct codes did not appear. Over 350,000 complaints about this issue and nothing substantial is being done. Honda is quickly dropping in reliability rankings and now it's obvious why. Ridiculous that a known bad part is not covered because codes don't match. Never ever purchase a Honda/Acura again!

My name is Ranjith from Qatar. Last two years this problem exists in my car. I consult many workshops but nobody could fix it. I went to the honda showroom to make a complaint, they told me it is a steering gearbox problem and has to be replaced. The cost to fix this issue they said is QR. 7000/- As per the information I got from internet this is a manufacturing defect and honda authority in Qatar didn't solve this issue free of cost. I am requesting to the honda authority in Qatar to solve this problem.

I HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL...IT BECOMES SO STIFF AUTOMATICALLY AND NOT ABLE TO TURN RIGHT OR LEFT WHILE DRIVING. I THOUGHT OF TAKING TO DEALER BUT IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN AS USUAL NEXT DAY, AND DID NOT DO ANYTHING. TODAY I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. STEERING WHEEL FREEZES, SO STIFF AND HAVE TO USE ALL MY FORCE TO TURN IT WHILE DRIVING. LATER ON I FOUND FROM AN ONLINE SEARCH THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE A STEERING FLUID CONTAINER OR STEERING FLUID! IT'S ALL ELECTRIC! NOW I FOUND FROM THIS SITE THAT MANY CAR OWNERS EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEMS. IT'S ALL DANGEROUS AND I AM SCARED TO GIVE THIS CAR TO MY TEEN DAUGHTER WHO JUST STARTED DRIVING. THIS IS SCARY, UNSAFE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I FOUND THAT HONDA ACCORD 2013 WON OVER 42 AWARDS, MOST SAFE CAR ON EARTH, ETC ETC!!!!!! HONDA NEEDS TO RECALL IT ASAP AND TO HELP POOR HONDA OWNERS FROM THIS DISASTER. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY AND HONDA , I BELIEVE WILL BE CAPABLE OF FINDING A SOLUTION TO THIS. RECALL THIS AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE AND FIX IT "NOT AT OWNER'S EXPENSE" AND I FIND THAT HONDA DEALERS, AS INDICATED BY SEVERAL HONDA OWNER'S EXPERIENCE, WERE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND NATURALLY COULD NOT FIND A SOLUTION. THIS IS 2018 AND I BELIEVE SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THIS PROBLEM BY THIS TIME AND HAVE CORRECTED AFTER 2013. HONDA, PLEASE COME OUT AS A RELIABLE AND TRUST WORTHY CAR COMPANY AND FIX IT ASAP. THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND DO NOT LEAVE THE HONDA OWNERS LIKE ME IN DANGER AND DARKNESS. TAKE IT SERIOUSLY BEFORE IT IS GOING TO BE OUT OF YOUR HANDS AND PAY BILLIONS IN LIABILITY AND MARKED AS A POOR - RELIABILITY MANUFACTURER. I HAVE THREE HONDA CARS IN MY FAMILY (CIVIC 2004, ACCORD 2013 AND ODYSSEY 2011) AND I ALWAYS WAS PROUD TO BE A HONDA OWNER AND LOYAL CUSTOMER AND PLEDGED TO MYSELF THAT I WILL ONLY BUY HONDA. I STILL HAVE FAITH IN HONDA AND REQUEST HONDA TO RECALL THIS CAR AND FIX THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY.

power steering fails while driving

We bought this 2013 Honda sedan v6 in Oct 2017. Took it for a test drive after it was delivered from Temple Texas. Noticed the steering was tight but didn't think to much about it. That night my son was driving it he turned left on our street and the power steering locked up and caused him to hit the cement pole under the freeway and total the car. Honda In America says they won't go out and inspect car because that is not their job and that I have to hire someone and if it's a problem then they will inspect.

I called 4 mechanics one being a Honda dealer. No one will inspect, the car can't be towed from salvage yard so they have to go there. My son luckily walked away with only 3 herniated places in neck and two tears and swollen hand and knees hit the dash and jammed him lower back. we are currently getting him therapy and chiropractor assistance. But something needs to be done. Feds were investigating 364k cases on this same issue and then it just gets dropped. WTH?

Honda is not holding responsibility. I will NEVER buy another HONDA. CK Car complaints before any vehicle. Think again when buying HONDA. Everyone that has ever owned Toyota and then bought a Honda that I know says they will never buy Honda again!! Something needs to be done!

Started the car to go to work and power steering did not work. My husband started it later and said the steering was fine. Later that evening, I ran some errands and was coming off an interstate ramp when the power steering went out again. The power steering light came on this time and I muscled the car while slowing down but it was all that I could do to keep it on the ramp. Luckily, the first intersection after exiting the interstate was the Honda dealer where I had purchased the car. It was no longer in the warranty period but I left it with them and they replaced the steering rack and related parts. They told me that Honda covered everything as it is a known issue. Codes 53-01 and 53-02 were noted and were covered by a warranty extension campaign. Thank goodness for that!

I didn't realize this was an issue with this vehicle. With plans to go out on a Saturday night with friends, my EPS light came on, and power steering abruptly failed in while executing a left turn in a busy intersection. Fortunately I was able to muscle the car to the side of the road and get it home. For the next two days the vehicle consistently showed this EPS light attempting to reset the light be repeatedly turning my car on and off. That third day I keyed up the car, and the light miraculously went out. I was able to drive approximately 0.75 miles around my apartment complex and re-park it. I assumed the issue was resolved and attempted to drive it to work where it then failed again no more than 100 feet from the spot I had pulled out of. This is when I made the safety decision to have the vehicle towed to the nearest dealer in the interest of my wife and also my own safety.

I was driving on the 50 miles per hour limit zone and the steering wheel locked up. I can not move neither right or left just go straight only and it happen when I was driving on the construction road and have to lean left, you have to pull really really hard to steering to the left even you used lots of forces. and it is happen three times already on the same vehicle, first two times were brought to the dealership for correcting the problems but I don't know whether they do anything and it still happened the third times. This is a really really dangerous situation when it occurred especially for younger driver like my son and daughter so someone take action to correct the problem properly before it go out of hand, human life can be as high risk.
