CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2014 Honda Accord is showing signs of an electrical problem with the starter failing soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. It's compounded by reports that the OEM battery doesn't have sufficient amps to start the V6 reliably after a year or two.

For now we are rating this problem with the "Beware" seal because it's occurring so soon after the 36K mile warranty expires. The upshot is when your Accord won't start, that's never good, but especially bad when it's just a few years old.

Also once again, owners are complaining that the 2013 Honda Accord seats are uncomfortable. Uncomfortable seats has been a significant complaint with the Accord since the 2008 model year.

Starter issues. Apparently common in 2013-2016 models. There is NO recalls nor Honda offering to help fix. Therefore will cost several hundred dollars to fix out of pocket. SO much on reliability of Honda’s or then standing behind their vehicle products. Afraid it will not start so I can’t take out of town until fixed.

Accord Sport 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 80,000 miles

Bought this 2013 Honda Accord Sport two and a half years ago and at approximately 80,000 highway miles, I am hearing a loud grinding noise coming from the engine compartment upon starting the vehicle. Opened up the hood and realized it is coming from the engine itself. This noise occurs on cold starts and when the engine is idling.

Upon doing some research, I learned that Honda has been receiving these complaints for several years and does not have a resolution for the problem. Apparently it is common in the CRV model. I took the car to the dealership and they are going to look into it and seemed to be aware of this problem from other customers. Called Honda and they made it clear that I was out of warranty which is 5 years or 60,000 miles.

Upon diagnosis, I hope Honda does the right thing because I bought the Honda for its reliability and I am very disappointed that I have this problem on a HONDA motor on a two and a half year old car. If they care about their reputation, they will do the right thing but that remains to be seen and I'm not holding my breath. Stay tuned!
