CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Honda Accord has a solid reputation (so far), with one very significant flaw: uncomfortable seats.

Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight.

The common theme we hear is "never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

Accord LX 2.4L

Strange issue but there is a jump from 2nd to 1st gear only when downshifting on my automatic transmission. I have figured out a way to brake in a certain way that keeps it from happening but it still occurs occasionally. I have heard that some people have gotten it fixed via an update on the main computer but this would be very costly and I don't think it's doing damage to the car. I have been driving it like this for years and it has not changed much.

Accord EX-L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles

Purchased this car last month. After a day of driving the car, it was painfully obvious that something just wasn't right with the transmission.

1) Car jerks noticeably when it downshifts from 3rd to 2nd and then again from 2nd to 1st gear. 2) Occasionally when upshifting the car has trouble catching gear and makes for a rough upshift. 3) When cruising on highways and maintaining a particular speed I will feel slight transmission slip and loss of power for which the car then compensates and gives a little more power.

I have taken the car to Honda dealership twice because the car is still covered under warranty, however they have told me the computer is not reporting an issue and that the transmission is fine. Extremely disappointed with this car! 27 years old and I have never written a review on-line, but I felt compelled as to make sure no one else purchases this car without ensuring this problem is not present in their vehicle.

Accord EXL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50 miles

I just got rid of 2004 Nissan Maxima due to transmission failure (car paid off ahead of schedule), purchased Honda because of their track record, now it feels like this Honda has the same problem as the Maxima. The shifting in this car is not right, acceleration drops off when driving.

Accord EX-L 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,300 miles

For every up-shift your head will jerk forward. While coasting or softly braking on level surfaces, the car inconsistently down shifts roughly, and again your head will jerk forward. This makes it really difficult to judge required stopping power for red lights or to avoid collisions. The rough down-shifting is not found in the D3 mode. Brought it to dealer, they test drove it and compared it to another new V6, said the shift quality was poorer on mine, but not bad enough to warrant attention. This also noticed I had a transmission leak and was missing 1-1.5L of ATF. Mind you, this on a 1300 mile car! They sent me home with an ATF refill. The terrible shift quality makes the ride un-enjoyable, annoying & at times unpredictable. Needless to say, I'm very dissatisfied.
