CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Honda Accord has several serious defects – poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

I have owned my new Accord for two weeks now and the Tire Pressure Monitor light comes on regularly. Usually when I first start the car in the morning. The Dealer gave me the line that it is because of the cooler air. I check the pressure when the light is on and it is at the recommended pressure yet the light still stays on. The dealer won't do anything about it. This is the last Honda I will own. This is one of MANY problems with this car.

A tire pressure monitor that is supposed to be a safety system is a nuisance. Honda should at least allow to turn it off it is not going to work. The tire pressure is fine. The system is unusually poor quality for a Honda.

I will NEVER BUY from BRYAN AUTO in Fayetteville, NC again--this problem with the TPMS occurred as soon as we left the dealership, and the light has remained on since we left early last week. IT IS NOT AN ISSUE WITH DAILY TEMP CHANGES. We took it in the next day to be checked, and they say they "may or may not" have checked my tire pressure, despite my insistence that they fully check the TPMS sensors. They REFUSE to give me any documentation of what they did service on 11/7/08 (thus disallowing me any first claim on the lemon laws in NC) and I am LIVID--have contacted Honda Automotive, BBB, and Dept of Consumer Protection. I also called my insurance co--they advised NOT to drive the car under any circumstances, as the car may be replaceable, but not our lives. We have NO idea what may be wrong, and they did NOT address it...would you want a blow-out while driving in an area where your cell phone gets no reception? The dealer is a 40 minute drive from us, but really smooth-talked us into a deal.

The car still sits in the driveway, well after a week now. This is a complete disaster, on a high-dollar payment, and their solution now is to put nitrogen in the tires--I will not do anything to alter my Honda specifications or warranty, however. I am at the end of my rope, unable to drive my car. While our salesperson was great, the Internet Sales Manager, David Johnson, is insensitive, rude and uncaring in the situation. NEVER BUY FROM BRYAN AUTO IN FAYETTEVILLE, NC!! They DO NOT CARE, and will not care, about what happens once you drive off the lot. I highly recommend Steve Jones Honda in Aberdeen, NC, however--definitely worth the extra miles you may have to drive.
