Car has less than 100k miles, mostly highway and well cared for yet the transmission is slipping and making unusual noise when turning from stops and cold starting.

Update from Aug 19, 2014: Turns out this was not my transmission. I took my car to dealer and test drove with a mechanic. He quickly identified the problem was with the engine and bet me that when we got back to the shop he would find very little oil in my car. He was correct. Oil did not register on the dip stick and I had no indication of the problem. Previous oil change was less then 5k miles ago.

Pistons, rings, timing chain and a few other components had to be replaced.

FYI, The noise I was hearing he said was the timing chain.

This is by far the WORST vehicle I have ever owned, far worse than the 1976 Renault, the 1979 VW diesel, and far, FAR worse than the 1990 Mercury. Not only are the brakes a constant source of problems, but numerous rattles and other annoyances make daily driving a curse.

The transmission never felt right from day one. Slipping/surging often occurred during 1-2 upshift and sometimes 2-3 upshifts. Problem first became very noticeable, especially when the vehicle was cold, right around the first service interval. Of course, the dealer said "could not duplicate." Problem continued to get worse, resulting in significant surging (500-1000 rpm variations while driving the vehicle at a steady speed. It was most noticeable before the transmission completely warmed up at between 25 - 40 mph. Dealer "could not duplicate" at the second service, either - of course not, the moron didn't test the car when the transmission was cold!

I just hope the transmission fails completely before the warranty expires. I have NO desire to argue with the dealer and Honda about pre-existing conditions.

Update from Sep 30, 2012: After the waranty expired with no satisfactory solution to the transmission problem, I took matters into my own hands. I purchased a case of Hojnda's new transmission fluid, DW-1 (do NOT use ATF-Z1 or any aftermarket ATF), and flushed the system by draining and refilling the system 4 times. Honda has a specific procedure for this and it must be followed exactly to ensure that the new fluid fully circulates through the system (Service News 08010A - Jan 2008). This solved the problem and now the transmission shifts well. I just hope the previous problems didn't cause internal damage that will manifest itself in future transmission failure.

Transmission problem started in Fall of 2009. I initially described it as a "stumble" with the engine as it was most noticeable on cold starts. The dealer initially "could not duplicate" as the problem seemed to go away once the engine warmed up. As problem continued, the "stumble" happened all the time. The problem happened when transmission made the 2-3shift, when the LOCKUP torque converter was attempting to lock up. The proper dealer term is "judder." This apparently was a problem with Odyssey drive train also. The torque converter was replaced and the problem "solved" for the next 5000 miles.

It was at this point my attention was diverted to 08 Accord brake issues. I cried "Uncle!" Binding seat tracks, cracked and peeling leather, oil consumption, "seamless" 3/4/6 engine transitions, a drivetrain whine that never got fixed and driver's side water build-up from the wiper finally "broke me. I now drive a 2010 Acura TSX. I told Honda; The best of cars and the worst of cars! Much I loved about 08 Accord but, not up to par with our 2007 Accord EX-L V6. Did the cars really have the same parents??????

PLEASE do yourself a favor! DO not buy a 2008 Honda Accord or newer. The car has been a huge problem after the 1st few months. 1st the brakes are horrible. New back brakes needed at 24,000 miles (I understand this is good!!! others alot sooner). Keep in mind, I drive all highway. No stop and go.

The front rotors are warped too. The front pads have 50% life, but rotors are junk. Now the steering wheel vibrates violently when braking from 40 MPH to a stop. Honda wont do anything aout it. They claim its normal. BTW, back brakes are done again!!!

Car has 39,000 miles now and the transmission is slipping or surging in 2nd gear on moderate acceleration. Again, dealer says no codes, so all is good right? NO. Car is getting worse by the day. I know it will fail, most likely with in 10k more miles when the powertrain warrenty is up. Also, many squeeks and rattles inside. some were addressed, but are back again. So, I will be trading this car in the comming days. Dont care how much I loose. This was my 1st Honda and last. Dont make the mistake as many others have.

I JUST POSTED A COMPLAINT ON THE FORUM ABOUT PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR, AND THIS TIME I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT A CRAZY PROBLEM THAT I AM STILL NOT SURE WHETHER IT IS FIXED. WE JUST HAD A NEW (RE MANUF) TRANSMISSION PUT INTO OUR BRAND NEW 2008 ACCORD AFTER COUNTLESS TIMES TO THE DEALER TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT STARTED OUT ACTING LIKE IT WAS JUST COLD AND NEEDED MORE TIME TO WARM UP BEFORE STARTING TO DRIVE THE CAR. WE TRIED LETTING IT WARM UP FOR 10 MIN ON VERY COLD MORNINGS, WHICH DID NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE, BUT AT TIMES THE PROBLEM WAS NOT ALWAYS OBVIOUS. THE DEALER TALKED ABOUT REPLACING THE TRANS LAST YEAR IN JUNE, BUT WANTED TO "TRY" SOME OTHER THINGS FIRST! WHAT A JOKE......FIRST OF ALL, EACH TIME WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER....I AM WITHOUT A CAR....WHICH I NEED, WHICH IS WHY I PURCHASED A CAR BTW! AFTER THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES AT THE DEALER....THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHICH WE REPORTED.....WTF???? THEY STATED THEY WOUND NEED TO KEEP THE CAR FOR A FEW DAYS TO SEE IF THEY COULD GET IT TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM WHICH WE REPORTED.....I TOLD THEM, NO PROBLEM......GIVE ME A RENTAL/LOANER TO USE IN THE TIME THEY HAD MY CAR! THEY ACCOMMODATED....BUT THE RENTAL WAS NOT UP TO PAR WITH WHAT I WAS EXPECTING. THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR 1 WEEK, AND HAD TO SEND REPORT TO HONDA TECH ENGINEERS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO. AT LEAST THEY AGREED IT HAD A PROBLEM. BUT THEY TOLD US THAT IT WAS THE GRADE OF FUEL THAT WE WERE USING! WE SPECIFICALLY ASKED THE DEALER WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR IF IT REQUIRED HIGHER GRADE FUEL.......THEY SAID "NO".....SO WHY ARE THEY NOW TELLING US TO USE THE HIGHEST GRADE FUEL WHICH AT THE TIME WAS 4.00 PER GAL!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT......WE DID PUT A FEW TANKS OF HIGH GRADE IN TANK.....WHICH DID NOTHING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.....BACK TO HONDA WE GO! THEY REPLACED THE FUEL SENSOR CELL....OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT....MOTOR MOUNTS, AND COUNTLESS OTHER THINGS BEFORE FACING THE FINAL ATTEMPT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER AT LEAST 7 TIMES IN SHOP..AND MANY HEADACHES DUE TO TRYING TO SCHEDULE MY LIFE AROUND GOING TO THE DEALER AND PICKING UP A RENTAL...THEY JUST NOW REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, BUT I STILL FEEL A SLIGHT HESITATION AT TIMES, WHICH IS VERY SCARY WHEN YOU ARE CROSSING A BIG INTERSECTION.....YOU REALLY NEED A CAR NOT TO FAIL AT THOSE TIMES! HONDA FLOPPED WITH THIS MODEL.....I THINK THEY HAD A DRUG ADDICT TELLING THEM WHAT TO DO.....OR AT LEAST WORKING ON THE PRODUCTION LINE!!!

I FEEL LIKE A USED, ABUSED, CONFUSED CONSUMER....BUT NOW I AM A WIDE EYED, AND MUCH SMARTER CONSUMER.....NEVER AGAIN WILL I LET THIS HAPPEN BEFORE DOING SOME SERIOUS RESEARCH PRIOR TO BUYING MY NEXT CAR!....PROBABLY WILL NOT BE A HONDA~!!!!!!!!!

When i come to a rolling stop, and I hit the gas to pull into traffic, the engine revs and catches gear after the car has rolled into traffic. This worries me, I'm not ready to be in an accident. I have told my dealer 3 times and they checked it and could not find anything wrong. The problem still happens. The service manager tried to make the problem happen again, but could not duplicate. He had the car all day and even on my drive home it happened again. This is a dangerous problem. I have since started to stop completely, even on right hand turns so I can avoid being hit by another vehicle. Can't trust the tranny.
