CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.
BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.
OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.
UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

Imagine a vast winter tundra in which the air temperature is -30 for 2 days. It finally warmed up to -16 so I attempted to start my car. Naturally it needed a jump which was expected as 2/3 of my neighborhood was getting cars jumped (literally). My wonderful '08 ends up getting enough electrical deliciousness after a couple of short minutes; as my thicc buddy disconnected the jumper cables and put my hood down, I hear a sound similar to a gunshot as he screams "kill it". Now, being used to gun shots I don't even jump at the sound anymore.... but as I see a beautiful eruption of plastic and molten gold liquid shooting up into the air and all over my vehicle I very quickly shut the POS off.
POS vehicle is now shut off. I tell husband to go home as it is cold and I. AM. PISSED (I spent $2,300 on repairs for a separate issue 1 month ago). There is what appears to be power steering fluid everywhere. All over my car, the engine block, the hood. There is some coolant hanging out and my lovely trusty 08' Accord red lined in the process (shocker). I wait 4 hours for AAA and officially gave up on this vehicle which I owned for less than 2 years. Keep in mind this was a lease trade in with all maintenance completed and documented at the dealership and I continued all factory maintenance.
As I cleaned power steering fluid off of my glasses and winter clothing, I let my boss know I was definitely going to be late and gave my car a good, swift, assertive kick in the headlight.
This is our 3rd accord. We had an infamous 2003 V6 and it made it to 305,000 miles, thanks to the recalled transmission repair. My '98 Accord made it to 210,000 before bursting into flames due to my own stupidity. I bought a new Accord and if I have to go through the same BS with this one, I am switching to Toyota.
