CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

Light was turning on off when turn on street. Lighton seat belt was also doing the same thing. I didn't know what it was so I took it to the dealer.they said it was the airbag doing all the problem. So they explained that there was a recall on this problem so they change it on time before any other serious accident can happen.

Seatbelt light is continuously on when driving and when the car is started. This can be a safety hazard. When passengers are in the front and back seats of the vehicle, the light remains red, which means something is wrong. I travel a lot with grandchildren in car seats. This has to be addressed immediately.

After fixing takata air bag recall for Honda Accord 2008 sedan, SRS air bag light started coming on and stays on even after the car is in drive mode. Gillman Honda (sam houston pkwy, houston tx) wants to charge for detection and fixing of the issue. I have written about 2 weeks ago to Honda Motors America to address this issue since this is a "safety" issue but they have not responded yet. I request NHTSA to investigate since so many Honda cars have "SRS light come on" issues. In many cases as I have read on online forums and blogs the detection is 1. driver side wire harness problem 2. driver side seat belt buckle sensor. Honda Motors should cover this issue as a part of lifetime warranty and a safety recall should be issued immediately on Honda cars with such know problems.

Suddenly after 68000 miles, my Honda Accord 2008 has a warning light saying SRS faulty (error code 15-078). When I took it to dealer they charged me $134 to diagnose this problem and telling me that the fault is with seat belt sensor. So, they wanted $1300 to fix this problem. I believe this problem is related to their SRS bag recall and is a safety issue with faulty seatbelt sensor. Honda is trying rip us off as I see at least 69 people reported on thenet of the similar problem. This tells us that this problem is not isolated or driving related or damage by the owner, but a faulty part and faulty system. Hence, I request NHTSA to look into this problem also and force Honda to produce safer vehicles and fix the vehicles already in use and on the american roads.

Our 2008 Honda Accord SRS indicator is on which alerts a potential problem with the airbag or seat belt tensioners per owner's manual. We took the car to Honda dealer. It took them hours and charged us $157 but couldn't find the problem. They ended up suggesting either we replace SRS unit $603+tax, and if problem still present then replace the gauge control module $555+tax. Hereby we're reporting this issue and hope Honda will recall the vehicle.

There was a premature failure of the SRS module in our 2008 Honda Accord which, according to a local Honda representative, renders the airbags useless in a crash or can cause premature deployment. At the time, my wife was pregnant and drove 100 miles roundtrip (highway) daily to work. I needed this part addressed asap. Multiple Honda dealerships refused to service the vehicle in a timely fashion (inside a 2 week window), would not offer a complementary vehicle, and insisted on charging a diagnostics fee when I had already performed the diagnostics through work and associated partnerships (fleet management provider and maintenance vendors). Honda refused to warranty the part and I had to pay out of pocket close to $500 for parts and labor. Seems silly as this was a safety related service.....updated 12/15/15 updated 7/06/17

Riding down the road and my 12 year old daughter got tangled in the seat belt. We pulled into a gas station and tried to get the seat belt to release- it would not release. It kept eating any slack we gave it and kept tightening on her. It got to the point where she, nor I (because of the position) could hold her body weight up any more- it was starting to cut into her side. I yelled can anyone help we need to cut a seat belt and thank goodness a young man came over and was able to cut the belt off. I then took the car to the Honda dealer who replaced the belt and filed a complaint with Honda about the seat belt- they took the complaint- however they refused to tell me anything else. A supervisior from Honda customer service- stated that the seat belt would be looked into and that I should hear if it was malfunctioning or what came of the inspection of why the belt locked up. I called today 3/23 to follow up with Honda spoke to another supervisior - he told me that the part was upstairs in a box and that they do not open or touch the belt. That because it was under warranty they just keep it, he said he would look into it and contact me...I wait... my issue is why did this happen- I know seatbelts are to protect us but this was dangerous- there was no way to release the belt other then cutting it. Safety issue especially for children.

The warning light on the dashboard panel is warning that the passenger airbag as deployed. At the same time the "fasten seatbelt" warning stopped working and the seal around the passenger window is loose. Coincidentally, a relative also has a 2008 Honda Accord and the exact same things are happening. According to many internet entries, the same thing is happening to many 2008 Honda Accord. I cannot find information on a recall. It is a safety hazard, because some owners have reported the airbag deploying while driving.
