CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

For the 2nd time since 2008, I've had to replace the sparkplugs due to PCM issues. The engine light will come on and gives an error code of P0303. Unfortunately you can only go to Honda to have the computer updated, and they will try to sell additional services. Today they refused to update my computer stating the only way to fix was to replace all the sparkplugs despite the service bulletin stating otherwise. Despite this being a manufacturer issue Honda has forced car owners to pay for this repair with no true fix existing.

On thanksgiving night 2012, I went shopping and got back to my parents house around 11:00pm. I had gifts and food in the car and the power door locks locked on me automatically with me in it. I finally was able to open the passage door and got out. The car door locked again and I was not able to get into the car either by using the keyless entry nor by manually trying to unlock it with the key in the door lock. I had to let the food stay in the car over night as well as the other things I had purchased. I am so glad I did not have my niece with me. The next day, I had to spend $60 to get a locksmith to open the door. About 6 months later the automatic door locks that locks when you put the car in drive, keeps locking every time a make a stop and pull off again. This is driving me crazy too. This is truly a safety issue. I can only imagine if I had a child in the car, what would have happen. The local news featured a news story with a woman who is having the same problem with her Honda CRV about 3 months ago. This is a real problem that the Honda manufacture needs to address either thru recall or extended warranty. Enough is enough.

Back in August I took my car to southeastern Honda dealer like I routinely do to have my oil changed. It was suggested by service rep to change my transmission fluid, which I did. On my way home from work one night my engine light started flashing and my car was driving like it is going to shut off. I took my car to the dealer and they hooked it up to a machine and said it was 2 of my spark plugs, it's a common problem with the Accord V6 so it's best to change all of plugs which I agreed too and this will solve the problem. On 2/7/13 I took my car to southeastern Honda for my routine oil change and again the service rep suggested my power steering fluid and brake fluid needed to be changed which I agreed too. On my way home the vsa, brake light and ABS light came on in the car. As so as I was able to I took it back to southeastern Honda, the same service rep said they hook it up and it was the spark plugs which was change back in August and it should not be occurring because all the plugs were changed and it's a defect in the engine. He will speak with the good will Honda person because the car needs an engine. He called back a couple of days later and say it's the engine and I will be required to pay half for the engine. I left my car at the dealer for a week, paid a few dollars short of $3000 dollars and my engine vsa, brake and ABS lights is still coming on. I googled this problem and alot of the Honda have this problem. I will like to know what is the status of this problem.

I was having problems with shuddering in my car. On January 21, 2013, I logged a complaint number with Honda usa. Their recommendation was for me to have my car looked at by a certified Honda technician. I made an appointment for January 25th and took the car in. The certified dealer in countryside called to tell me he was able to replicate the issue. The service technician did an upload of more recent software and the issue seemed to be fixed. I was skeptical. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle, I was shown a service bulletin that Honda service was receiving notifying them of the issue. I asked why Honda was not actively recalling the cars to correct the problem. They said they did not know why.

I have had 5 door actuators changed on my car - all doors and one door was twice. I have a 6th one out but I have not gotten it fixed. The dealership told me that "sometimes things happen". I tried to talk with Honda, they did pay for most of them repairs but refused to admit it was a problem. The dealership never could tell me why it was happening, just kept replacing the actuators. I got tired of fighting with them, that is why the last one has not been replaced. This is my first and last Honda. I was extremely disappointed with my service from Honda. We bought the car brand new off the lot and it started within a year and a half of purchase.

Car cut off while in store for five minutes was told that if you leave keys in ignition while off it drains the battery. No car in my life that ever happened after leaving the radio in the car on and drained the battery. Had a problem within 3 months of buying a 2008 Honda. Car cut off and wouldn't start. And it did it again last night took it in before and the first time I took it in battery was fine and they check the battery today and they said it was no good but it happened a total of 4 times and there was a recall on the car and it happened to other people and which shouldn't happened cut off last night and no key in the ignition and battery died. Spoke to [xxx] store manager and spoke to service manager and refuse to change the battery. All they did was charge up battery. Cause they wanted me to purchase a battery for $159 which there is a problem. Because there was a problem few months after I bought the car. And brought in for same thing now less than a year. Honda told me that if you leave key in car that the car still is drawing power even though key is off. I kid you not my mom was in the car for five mins and battery died. Honda of roanoke rapids don't care about customer service and doing what is right to satisfy the customer. Battery was going bad before. I will never buy a car again from them. And I have the power train warranty and american Honda forced me to get it and wont cover squat. I was forced to take it by american Honda or else they would approve my loan. This was Honda of roanoke rapids. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The car did not want to move after it was put in gear. When the car did move it was very hesitant and would not pick up speed at first, then would gradually pick up speed. The car is back at the dealership and first they said it was transmission sensor, then said it was the computer, after replacing that the car begin a rough idle.

The warning light on the dashboard panel is warning that the passenger airbag as deployed. At the same time the "fasten seatbelt" warning stopped working and the seal around the passenger window is loose. Coincidentally, a relative also has a 2008 Honda Accord and the exact same things are happening. According to many internet entries, the same thing is happening to many 2008 Honda Accord. I cannot find information on a recall. It is a safety hazard, because some owners have reported the airbag deploying while driving.

Sometimes my car makes a grinding noise when I turn the key to start it. I took my car twice to the metro Honda dealer in montclair, ca; but even though I have the extended guarantee, they refuse to check my car. I do not know what to do. I did some research on the internet, and I found out that a lot of people are having the same problem; and some of them had replaced the vtc actuator, and the problem was fixed. I mentioned this to the maintenance experts at metro Honda, but they still do not care. My concern is that this is a situation that is not on a recall list. What should I do?

I had just bought a used 2008 Accord, while driving at 45-50 mph at night, I noticed the headlights would blink. After several times, I got curious and started timing the occurrence. The lights would blink every 35 -45 sec. The heat was on since it is cold in nh in Jan. I when to the Honda dealership and they asked if the heat was on, and to try shutting the heater off to see if it stopped, which it did. My concern is traffic at intersecting roads could assume that I am flashing the lights to let them proceed. Not to mention that it is aggravating and this is the first vehicle that I have owned in over 40 years of driving that has this problem. I see that other people have the same issue but Honda says that is the way it is. This is not acceptable in this vehicle or any other vehicle in the 21st century.

Motor shuts down regardless of speed and can sometimes be restarted by applying pressure to the ignition switch key forward to restart if possible while on roadway. Otherwise, must execute a quick response to losing power braking, steering and etc. And drive to safety at off road location. Upon removing the ignition key from switch module, the metal key was extremely hot, starting engine back up often was not possible until ignition switch and key cooled down. This occurrence put an unreasonable risk on occupants due possible accidents. The NHTSA campaign id number 02V120000 addressed this issue. However, rejection of applying recall to my vehicle, even though the situation was exactly identical to recall by Honda dealer, who replaced switch at my expense and refused to consider that recall applied to the ignition unit as not on recall list. I questioned sensibility of this as my car's ignition switch was malfunctioning exactly as the ignition switch under recall. Due to dealer's disposal and inability to retrieve replaced item, unable to compare part number to Honda's list of bad switch components. I have placed a complaint with Honda Motors U.S.a., case #[xxx] which was rejected due that they don't show VIN# is included in the recall. I questioned this with them as recall and actual events occurring with my auto were identical. They advised that refund of the $184.74 for replacing the ignition switch would not be possible even though problem was identical with recall as my vehicle wasn't included.

Headlights flicker out completely or dim severely when coming to a stop or the condenser for the ac/defrost kicks on. I have researched this and it appears to be an issue due to the electric load detector. Although Honda had said this might be normal I find that while driving my 4 yr. Old son around it is a safety concern and would like to have the problem looked into.

Some sort of electrical problem is occurring and causes the headlights to dim and fluctuate erratically. The sound in the stereo also gets lower often times and I wonder if this ties into the headlights problem. I feel unsafe driving the vehicle because it is a distraction and causes me to check my instrument panel and I really expect a vehicle to operate properly after spending so much money on it.
