CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Honda Accord has several serious defects: poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

Around 4:45 P.M., Thursday, March 11, 2010, I took my '08 Honda Accord to goodson Honda I-45 North, houston, Texas, because at approximately 30,000 miles loud noises was coming from the rear of the vehicle. It appeared that I was having serious brake problems. After an inquiry of the brake's quality and performance, the service advisor, carl reed confirmed that the rear brake shoes would be replaced with a better quality. He informed me that Honda's corporate office had selected a new company that would provide better quality, and longer life spans of their brake shoes and pads. In addition, Honda's technician had to replace the front brake pads at approximately 20,000 miles. The qualities of the brake system using low quality brake pads and shoes have proven to be a nuisance for owners. The service advisor, carl reed, drove the vehicle to the rear of customer service and it stayed hidden for about 20 minutes. Then one of Honda's rouge technicians, jose terdomo, drove the vehicle inside the service area where it was visible from a window. He kept the hood of the vehicle open as he removed the rear brake shoes. Around 6:10 repairs were completed, and I checked the vehicle out at 6:19. When I turned the air condition on after departing from goodson Honda service department, contaminated air flowing from the vents initiated an immediate respiratory discomfort. While venturing back and forth to work Friday, 03/12/2010, the air quality that flowed from the vent was unfit for humans to breathe. As it flowed from the air condition vents, it permeated the air with dangerous nanoparticles, lethal chemicals, and irritant gases compressed with tetrafluoroethane (R-134A). This dangerous mixture quickly attacks the respiratory and central nervous systems with its lethal combination. If you need further information, please feel free to contact me.

I purchased a 2008 Honda Accord LX last year and also purchased an extended warranty due to the amount of miles I drive per day. This year I took my car in to be serviced because the air conditioning was not cooling. The dealership informed me that the condenser was damaged from rocks hitting it and it would not be covered by warranty. The repair cost would be $594 and there was no way to prevent this problem from re-occurring in the future. I informed the service manager that this appeared to be a design flaw in the manufacturing of the vehicle. Upon researching this problem on the internet, I found this is a common occurrence among Honda & Acura models.

I bought a brand new 2008 Honda Accord with a 4 cylinder engine. When the air conditioner kicks on and the headlights are on there is a noticeable and quick dimming almost flashing of the headlights and taillights. It is bright enough to seem as though I am flickering my head lights to the person in front of me on the highway and this is a serious safety hazard. I contacted Honda both the dealership and a regional representative and was told this is "normal" and "within specs". I am not alone with this problem as I have found many others with the same problem and they were all told the same from Honda representatives. I have owned over 50 cars in my lifetime and flickering lights, let alone on a brand new $27000 care should never be considered "normal." Thank you for your time and I appreciate any feedback you would be able to provide. Sincerely, john kalapodis

Purchased a 2008 Honda Accord June 29,2008. Finally got a chance to drive the vehicle for a period of time with the headlight on last night and noticed that the headlights keep dimming momentarily as the A/C or fan cycles about every 20-30 seconds. Two issues that I have is that Honda is aware of the issues as every 2008 Accord does the same thing. It is rather noticeable and very distracting not only to the driver but no doubt to other drivers that think I may be flashing my lights at them.

I own a new 2008 Honda Accord ex 4-cyl. When the A/C is on, my headlights, running lights and tail lights flicker dim to bright approximately every 40 seconds while at idle and while driving. This is a major concern and should be corrected. I will contact all insurance companies concerning this.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. While driving 40 mph, she heard a cracking noise coming from the vehicle. In addition, she smelled propane fumes when she turned on the air condition. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. As of February 25, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 1,000 and current 6,500. Updated 3/19/08 updated 03/19/08

Exterior and interior lights flicker when the air conditioning compressor comes on. Baytown Honda service dept, baytown tx, stated this is normal and intended to do that. First they said they weren't aware of the problem, then they produced a service bulletin on the 2008 Accord that advised Honda is aware of the problem. Baytown Honda stated nothing could be done because Honda said there is no problem with flickering lights. The flickering lights are a distraction to the driver and other drivers.
