CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Honda Accord suffers from transmission failure. It's not a huge widesperad problem like in prior years, but definitely still something to consider.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Transmission failure problems have been a huge problem for the Accord & several other Honda models all through the early 2000s model years. Honda eventually extended the transmission warranty to 93 months/109k miles for the 2000-2001 Accords as a class action lawsuit settlement, but owners of other Accord model years with transmission problems are out of luck.

The Managing Director Honda Cars India Limited Plot No. A-1, Sector 40/41 Surajpur – Kasna Road Greater Noida Industrial Development Area Distt. Gautam Budh Nagar Uattar Pradesh - 201 306
Sub: Complaint against Honda Capital Cares Pvt. Ltd., Prime Honda B-19, Site IV – Sahibabad, Ansal Plaza, Main Link Road, Vaishali, Ghaziabad. Ref: Vehicle No. DL 3C AK 2096.
Respected sir,
This is with reference to the above mentioned subject. As you aware that our vehicle, a Honda Accord, Reg. No. DL 3C AK 2096 was sent for routine servicing to the above mentioned dealership on 27/08/2012 and was subsequently declared FIT and serviced on the next day i.e. 28/08/2012.
On the 5th of September, 2012 I started my car from Vasant Vihar and drove about 7 to 8 Kms towards Dhaula Kaun, where the vehicle suddenly stopped and the engine was still running but the car would not move forward then I immediately called up Advisor of Prime Honda Mr. Dheeraj and also called to customer care and informed about the problem of the vehicle. Then they advised me that there may be a problem with the clutch plate and I should get the car towed to the service center. However, after a few minutes the vehicle started to move slowly and I proceeded to move to the service station. At the service station, after a road test, I was informed that there was a problem with the gear box of the vehicle and would have to be replaced whole Gear Box at a cost of Rs. 2,81,852.00.
One thing I want to inform you that the said vehicle has done about 135000 km only, there may be a problem in gear box and but according to present condition of the said vehicle, question does not arise to change of gear box and I am surprised to note that whole gear box needs to be changed.
As the car could be driven safely, is it necessary that the whole gear box needs to be replaced?
My displeasure and strong complaint are the following:-
• If the vehicle was serviced just a week before the fault then why was the defect not noted that time? • When the vehicle could be safely driven to the service station and a road test carried out, then does that mean that the whole gear box has to be changed.
My displeasure with this service center is that they can say or claim whatever they want with no accountability. Doesn’t this affect the reputation of the company? Such type episode is not expected from a reputed organization like yours.
Further, more I wish to inform you that I am also technician and having over 15 years of experience, of the view that there is nothing wrong with the car and in my opinion, there may be a problem with any one part namely Gear Box Filter, charging pump and Oil pump, and for that, no need to change whole gear box.
Now, I will collect the above said car from Honda service station, Ghaziabad and get it repaired without changing whole gear box at outside private work shop under video surveillance and then send it to the press/ media and also will go to the consumer court so that in future no customer should suffer like this.
This is for your kind information please.
Thanking you, Yours faithfully (Md AZAD) 153/154 Vasant Enclave Rao Tula Ram Marg New Delhi – 110 057 Mobile No. 9650777905
