CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Honda Accord suffers from transmission failure. It's not a huge widesperad problem like in prior years, but definitely still something to consider.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Transmission failure problems have been a huge problem for the Accord & several other Honda models all through the early 2000s model years. Honda eventually extended the transmission warranty to 93 months/109k miles for the 2000-2001 Accords as a class action lawsuit settlement, but owners of other Accord model years with transmission problems are out of luck.
I think its bullshit to have problems on a car u properly maintain and have only 79,300 miles on. The car is only 4 1/2 yrs in my possession and i have been the only owner. I bought it new.
I took my car into a repair shop for basic fixing of my car, since Honda doesn't cover little things - they ended up "repairing" everything except the big problem that they found out only after I drove my car again.
Both of my axles are ruined and I ended up spending over $750 on repairs I didn't need.
You better believe I'm going to contact someone about this.
Car started out whining, then escalated to the transmission fluid started leaking. Took it to mechanic and had the axles sealed. Said they were moving. Lasted about 2 months. Went to dealer said temp fix axle seals at $400 per axle or new transmission for $3500. Car is only 3 years old and has 85k miles. Only paid 21k for it brand new fully loaded. Now the dealer suggestion is to spend $3500 on it for a new transmission. Anyone have any suggestion on how to get Goodwill repair from Honda?
