CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Honda Accord suffers from transmission failure. It's not a huge widesperad problem like in prior years, but definitely still something to consider.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Transmission failure problems have been a huge problem for the Accord & several other Honda models all through the early 2000s model years. Honda eventually extended the transmission warranty to 93 months/109k miles for the 2000-2001 Accords as a class action lawsuit settlement, but owners of other Accord model years with transmission problems are out of luck.

Serious vibration in steering wheel due to brakes worn out. Went to local shop and rotors were resurfaced and new pads, along with new pads on rear brakes. 3 months later the serious vibration in rear end of vehicle when braking and front end vibration back again when braking. Went to another shop and had the rear and front brakes done with new rotors and new pads. Within 4 months the front brakes were worn and vibrating again. Went to another shop and the mechanic told me it appears the other mechanics were tightening the wheels too tight. Had the front brake job with new rotors and haven't experienced any problems until today...not with the front but the rear brakes are vibrating again.

Mechanic warned me the back brakes were wearing prematurely 6 months to 1 year before we replaced them. Said it is a honda issue. Now today 8/23/2010, I see there is a class action law suit but not for year 2005. What gives.

Accord EX 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 47,146 miles

Bought this car in 12/04. In December 2007 when the car had 30,000 miles I had to replace front and back brakes. January 2010 after having new tires put on car, I was told I need back brakes. Took car to Tameron Honda in Hoover, Al and after their inspection I was told I not only need back brakes, but front brakes as well. Appears the front brakes had a heat cracks.

The car only had 17,000 miles on these brakes. Cost of this brake job was approximately $360.00 dollars. The brake job in 2007 was well over $400.00. Called the Service Manger and voiced my complaint. I knew nothing would be done because of the comments I had already read on this site and I was correct. Mr Arvizo informed me that American Honda only quarantees their brakes up to 12,000 miles. I called American Honda this morning and logged a complaint. I was advised there was nothing they could do. My comment is this. Honda should be ashamed of themselves for making an inferior product. Appears that I am looking at a complete brake job every two years. I feel like Honda is making an inferior product only to keep their Service Department in business. I use to trust the Honda product, but I don't anymore. I feel like I have been taken advantage of and Honda just lost a customer.

OH MY GOSH!!!! YES!!! I had same issues at 30,000 miles and again at 60,000 miles!!! I found out when I went to stop that , rotors were yanking us around and giving us slow whiplash!!

Took it to the dealer they fixed all under warranty and told me to lay off the brake that I stop too quickly and I was ruining my brakes and rotors! So I took the advice at once and babied my brakes, the same problem with my brakes were gone again, and dangerous to drive at 55,000 miles according to the Honda dealership.

I'm a single mom of three without any help, trying to make it threw school, I cant afford to keep having issues with my car. I have driven Honda's for the last 15 years for this reason. That they were well built. I have NEVER had an issue with a vehicle from the "way I drive it".

I had the same car but 2003, drove it to 50,000 before trading it for this one, and I NEVER had to put anything except tires on any of my Honda's!!!!!!! 2005 HONDA ACCORD EX V-6 is a lemon, and the dealers now it and keep telling you its your fault for how you drive it! WRONG!!!

same problem as the other complaints. Rear brakes failed. Honda Replaced them(WE FORCED THEM, at first they made excuses). At 55000, all FOUR brakes are gone again. Put aftermarket. Now brakes are running smooth.

Accord LX

Car is not driven that often. We went on a long trip of about 800 miles which involved traveling over the NC/Tenn Mountain range on the interstate. While driving back, the brakes began vibrating with a burning smell. I took it to a Honda dealer and was told that the brakes had "burnt out", along with the brake fluid. Major repair. I do not ride the brakes and the trip only involved normal driving. The mechanic explained that this was normal for Honda Accords. I find this to be unacceptable.

I've had this car since February 2005. I've done everything the dealer has told me to do. I'm not really a "car" enthusiast. I'm a girly girl, to be honest. When using Honda brand brakes, I've found I need to get new pads and rotors for the rear braking system roughly every 20K miles.

First time in January 2006 with only 18 K miles on the car. Second time, a year later in 2007 at 40K miles and I just blew up. The car was now needing its third set of rear brakes in January 2007. I finally put aftermarket brakes on in Jan 2007 and am just waiting to hear that I need new brakes again. I will say, its been 30K miles since I've put the aftermarket brakes on. Anyone else out there having this issue with Honda branded brake parts?

I've never had a car that needed brakes so often.
