CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Honda Accord suffers from transmission failure. It's not a huge widesperad problem like in prior years, but definitely still something to consider.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Transmission failure problems have been a huge problem for the Accord & several other Honda models all through the early 2000s model years. Honda eventually extended the transmission warranty to 93 months/109k miles for the 2000-2001 Accords as a class action lawsuit settlement, but owners of other Accord model years with transmission problems are out of luck.

About five years ago, the paint on the hood and roof of my accord started to peel off. On the hood, the paint came off the hood in two big patches on the hood. This was due to the hood insulation being too thin in those places. Which allowed heat from the engine to bubble off the paint on the hood. It started out small; now, it's really big. Also, the paint started to come off in layers off the roof. It looks like a virus! The paint did not peel off the trunk lid because someone rear ended me and I got a new re-painted trunk lid.

After I noticed those things, little things started to come off, like the door handles, and the tops of the doors and the mirrors. Finally, the engine quit. I found this guy who could give me a new engine for $2,500. I did it! After that, I went to Larry H. Miller Honda to get a quote on my paint. They said that they would paint just the roof and the hood for $2,500. No way! After some time, my friend mentioned a body shop that could do it for just $1,100! I expect to get my car back tomorrow morning.

This goes to show that Honda uses crappy paint and I feel that I should have not paid for something that was not my fault! I hope that others can be as lucky as me! Good luck!

I HAVE WORKED WITH STATE FARM INSURANCE FOR OVER 30 YEARS. I TOOK MY CAR TO AN ABRA AUTO BODY SHOP WHEN I FIRST NOTICED FLAKING PAINT APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AGO AROUND HOOD AREA. THE MANAGER SAID HE HAD NOT SEEN THIS HAPPEN ON HONDA CARS AND WAS VERY SURPRISED.

EVEN WITH A STATE FARM DISCOUNT IT WILL COST ABOUT $2000 TO REPAINT. NOW PAINT IS REALLY COMING OFF AROUND THE TOP REAR AND HOOD. I AM SINGLE AND HAVE NO EXTRA FUNDS FOR REPAIRS AND WOULD HOPE EVEN THOUGH THIS CAR IS 10 YEARS OLD THERE SHOULD BE SOME COMPENSATION FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD THE CAR HAND WASHED BUT NOW AM AFRAID TO EVEN WASH THE CAR. IT IS A GREAT CAR BUT I AM VERY UPSET THAT I HAVE TO HAVE A CAR THAT LOOKS SO BAD.

I've spoken with two different body shops and both have stated that the only way to repair the problem is to sand the car down and completely repaint the entire vehicle which would cost about $3000. The Honda dealership stated that the issue is with the quality of paint because of environmental laws that make the paints a lesser quality than those in the past. Both body shops stated that is not true and that paint quality has actually improved...I bought my car with 7 miles on it and spent the extra money to have it Simonized which was supposed to protect the paint, that was obviously another big waste of money!

I bought my Honda Accord, based on the good reputation Honda has with its vehicles. The factory paint job on my Accord, started peeling just 6 years after it was new. I have taken it to the Honda dealership, and have been told there is no recall, and nothing can be done.

I have been told that this same problem has happened to Honda Civic's, and the Honda Odyssey's, and Honda has acknowledge their was an issue with the paint. But nothing has been issued for the Accords.

It simply does not seem right that I have to deal with the factory paint peeling on my Honda Accord, due to no fault of my own.

I contacted Honda about the peeling paint on my car and we went back and forth, finally they asked me to take my car to the dealership for a estimate, Honda had told me that they might be able to pay for half the cost after I pointed out that even though my car is an Accord that Honda had a recall on the Civic for the same year and same color, what a coincidence .

The dealership agreed that the clear coat was peeling and the places were it was peeling were very unusual, the paint shop was suppose to send a copy of the estimate to Honda. After a couple of months and I had not heard anything from Honda, I call them and was told they had not received the paperwork. I told her I had a copy of the original estimate I could send it but she said just to have them send one, I informed her the estimate was $1400 and she agreed I would pay half which would be $700.00 I also informed her that since the original estimate that the trunk on my car had started peel, she asked me to take the car back to the body shop and have them look at it and redo the estimate.

Here is were it gets interesting, the original estimate that was $1400.00 it included the roof the quarter panels on both sides of the car in front and back which is a pretty large area, weeks later she contacted me again to tell me she had received the estimate where it included the trunk, I'm not a body shop expert but the trunk on the Honda Accord is a very small area and the estimate had gone from $1400.00 to $3800.00, I asked her how could that be that it was ridiculous, that it I could not comprehend how such a small area could have made the price double within a few weeks.

I was told that Honda had no control what the dealerships charge and they had to go by what the dealership estimated. I told her I'm retired and could not afford to pay half of $3800.00 which is twice of the original estimate so now my half was $1600.00 compared to the $700.00 originally told. She would not budge and I was told I had only a couple of weeks to make a decision, that's a lot of money for me so I didn't have that kind of money sitting around. I have taken good care of my car, waxing and using my car cover, it's 9 years and only has16000 miles so It's not like it has been abused.

Now that this has happened to me I have become very aware every time I go anywhere I look around and see what a huge amount of Hondas are out there with this problem, I wrongfully in my thoughts always assumed that people didn't take care of their cars, how stupid I was. I still think my Honda is a great car and people buy them because it's a good investment and yet the people that have supported them are now being treated like crap. I'm usually very good at not stopping until I resolve things even if I'm wrong but in this case I know I'm right and I think Honda has it all down to were they will wear you down, what a shame that now I drive a car that runs like a champ but looks pile of s---

2005 Honda Accord LS with black paint and blue pearl in the paint. Started peeling in 2010 and except for the doors, the amount of paint left wouldn't cover the trunk. It is all the way down to the metal. On the back bumper the paint has spider webbed all the way across. I bought the car in California brand new. It really is an eyesore on the road.

I have had paint peeling off of my Accord on the top, near the trunk, generally all over the car. I have never had a car where the paint just wore off so soon. I had a Toyota I owned for over 13 years and the paint still looked good. I just wondered if there were a lot of us that have had this problem and if it just happened to the cars made at the same time as mine? I would think as great of a Company that Honda is they would have more pride in their stock. Please advise if there is any help for this!!!!

I noticed a scratch on my car. The paint started peeling. More and more each wash. I thought it was due to the scratch when I noticed it doing it in other areas on the car. I called the dealer and they said there was no recall and basically my car was old. Really???
