CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000. Transmission failure has been a huge problem for the Accord & several other Honda models all through the early 2000s model years. Honda extended the transmission warranty to 93 months/109k miles for the 2000-2001 Accord as a class action lawsuit settlement, but owners of other Accord model years with transmission problems are out of luck.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

I am trying to find out if we have takata airbags that are subject to the recall. My husband has contacted and gone to our local dealer to find out what airbags we have, and they just keep telling him that they are okay. I have tried to enter the VIN number through the auto airbag settlement.com website powered by NHTSA, and it will not go through.
When driving along the highway the traction control light pops on along with the side air bag light. My transmission seems to be going out. When I'm at a complete stop and attempt to proceed through a green light the car seems to not want to get gas. I'm not sure what the problem is. Can someone please help me?
Takata recall-my SRS light is on for the last year or so. I called the local Honda dealership and they told me it would cost $300 up front to have this checked out. The local garage where I have my car inspected said this was part of the airbag recall but Honda won't check it without $300 up front and I just can't afford it. Maybe I will finally get it fixed under this class action lawsuit. I would like to have everything on my car working properly.
I moved from Arizona to Florida. I had the airbag recall replacement. Three days ago I saw the SRS (safety restraint system) light come on and stay on in my car. Because the recall is going into bankruptcy I am very concerned about the restraint system. Nothing has happened to the car. It just turned on. I contacted Honda and they say they are not going to address this because I had the recall work done. I can't image why they won't assist with the diagnosis and to determine the cause. I was under the impression that the seatbelt and airbags should last the life of the vehicle. I have never in any accidents and I have maintained the car, it is in great condition.

Takata recall. Our Honda Accord is just over 15 years old and apparently is not subject to the general air bag recall as it is not listed on the recall list. Why is it not covered? the information we have received says that high temperatures (we live in tucson, AZ) and age are indicators of possible failure.
