The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

The car has left me in the middle of busy traffic highway. I also have no one to come help me so I had to pay a wrecker and someone to fix. I can't afford a whole transmission. I have been taking very good care of the car - it's only had one other owner.
On my way home from work (in Hampton, VA to my home in Virginia Beach) my transmission failed so suddenly, that my life was in serious jeopardy. The transmission failure came within a hair of causing a major highway accident. I could have easily died.
I purchased my new Accord EXL, year 2000 model, back in 1999 because I believed that that Honda brand and "Made in Japan" tag are synonymous with quality and reliability. There was a general impression that Honda cars have better resale value than any American cars. To preserve the value of my car, I always got all repairs in the last 14 years done at Honda dealership and maintained my car very well. I was surprised at about 76,000 miles (in 2007) my car's transmission failed - so much for quality and reliability. Its transmission was in fact replaced by Honda under warranty. Even after replacing the transmission with a new one, its transmission has failed yet again at 136,000 miles. This I've been quoted $4,600 to fix this problem. It's resale value is a moot point and any body's guess! I'm not buying a Honda anymore and from my experience dissuade people from blindly purchasing overrated Japanese cars.
We are working on getting this problem fixed for the 3rd time. But it would be helpful if Honda could get a solution to the problem. This problem reoccurring is getting very annoying.
This was the 2nd time that we had to replace the transmission. This time it was when we were on vacation down in florida very annoying. I really wish that Honda would do something about this problem.

We had to replace the transmission a 2nd time when we were on vacation in florida. We returned home and it went again. Now I have to replacce it for the 3rd time this is getting to be real annoying. I cannot believe that Honda does not have solution to this problem with all the complaints that I see on this website from other comsumers.
After 12 years with my Honda and only 96,000 miles the transmission failed on me. Luckily I wasn't on a highway. Took it to my mechanic and he suggested to rebuild it for $1950. It sucks, but I can easily get another 50,000 miles from that car.

First transmission failed after 35,000 miles. That one was replaced. Second transmission failed at 102,000 miles (67,000 miles later). Car's worth nothing with a blown transmission, and a new one (installed by me) would net the same amount of money as just scrapping the car. And it'll fail again. Time to part this POS out.
I bought this car from a local dealer (Masters Auto Sales in New Hampshire) and vehicle is useless (cost me 4700 dollars and still owe 2300) to me. The transmission failed and it will cost 2,000 fix what a deal i got.
The transmission started making noises around 90K in 2006 miles and the dealer replaced it under a 2-year extended warranty that Honda had to address this problem in the 2000 Accord models.
5 years and an additional 50K miles later, the check engine light is on and the error code indicates transmission failure. The code recurs after being reset. The cost to put in a rebuilt transmission is $3000+.
This complaint is to add to the list already reported by Accord owners in the site.
We have been loyal Honda customers for more than 20 years. In April, my sister-in-law, who is in a very difficult financial situation, purchased a used 2000 Accord SE. Because she needed reliable transportation, we insisted she buy a Honda because of our good experience with your products over the years (all manual transmissions, however). Her car initially ran very well. However, after she drove it barely six months, the automatic transmission quit. With sales tax, it will cost more than $3,000 to rebuild the transmission and replace the torque converter and differential. My sister-in-law, who earns only minimum wage to support herself, will now have to pay half of what she paid for the car in the first place to get it back on the road. I wrote Honda's customer service, but I don't have high hopes. This likely will be our last Honda ever.
Not in a bad way, but good to see I'm not the only one with this issue! Purchased the used car from Tampa Honda Land in Tampa on September 7th, 2011. Test drove the vehicle all day with Paul and there were no issues. I fell in love with the vehicle and was told it was a great price and would have great re-sale value down the road. Literally, the next day, the car would jump when put into reverse and then would not shift properly from first to second. RPM's would run up yet no shifting. The D4 began to flash and the check engine light came on. Immediately called the dealer. I was told I bought as is and there was NOTHING they could do!!! I owned the vehicle for less than 18 hours. After fighting with the staff at Tampa Honda Land for days, they refused to do anything stating "...we would like to help, but our hands are tied." Whatever that is supposed to mean. They did try to sell me a new car though, despite me JUST buying one days earlier. The issue was brought to my mechanic's attention and fixed for $2000.00. When the car was returned it ran without issue until the next day when everything started again. D4 flashing, Check engine, poor acceleration, bucking, issues with down shifting....Everything that everyone else has said! I'm bringing it back to my mechanic in hopes he can help! He seems confident he can fix the issue... We will see! For the amount of money I have put into this car...owning it less than a month...I will NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN!!! Good luck everyone!
then after i had that fixed the solenoid on trans went out it out now. piece of crap so as i bought it i had to start replaceing coil packs so far i have had to replace 4 i will never buy another Honda !!!!!!!!!
I just wanted to add my two cents worth about transmission problems on 2000 Honda Accord. I was a huge fan of Honda and their record of reliability. That is all we bought. I have had a 1990 Accord, two 1992's--all bought used and then bought a 2000 Accord EX brand new. We got the recall notice for the transmission but were not having problems at the time. My daughter has it now--it is still under 100,000 miles and the transmission has died. From what I've read there is no point to replacing it with another identical worthless transmission. Honda's response to this, I believe is going to destroy their stellar reputation. I see the Civic has now dropped off the recommended list at Consumer Reports. I will never buy another one. Right now the 1992 we still have that my daughter is borrowing will not shift without incredible force. Every Honda we have had has had that same problem at some point. Shame on you Honda--you should be replacing what you knew to be defective--you HAD some really loyal customers.
After having the original transmission replaced at 107,311 miles which was covered by an extended warranty, the replacement trans has now failed after less than 60,000 miles and Honda will not admit to a flawed design or help with the cost to replace it. They want $4000 to fix a car worth only a little more than that.
