CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

We have not received an estimate on the damages from the appraiser/insurance company. Vehicle was hit on the driver side on the headlight at an angle. This threw the vehicle into a ditch on the right side. The I-beam from the frame can be seen thru the bumper to illustrate the impact on both driver and passenger side. The police and the tow truck operator immediately pointed out that they felt the driver airbag should have deployed. I filed a complaint with Honda Consumer Affairs on 5/7/01, but have not heard a word from them since. I would like to get the car inspected by a professional before anyone starts tampering with the vehicle.
Traveling at 40 mph and struck another vehicle. Impact on the passenger side, front of vehicle. None of the airbags deployed. Sensor lights come on occasionally and am concerned the air bags are defective.
Consumer was traveling 35mph & had frontal impact collison with a tow truck. The passenger airbag deployed & the driver airbag did not. Driver sustained seroius injuries a fractured sternum. Consumer felt that injuries may have been avoided if airbag would have deployed.
The "SRS" light comes on, indicating a problem with airbag system, both frontal and side airbags. Dealer cannot determine the cause of the problem or which airbag system is having the problem.
