CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.

The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

Car fuel injection system completely failed in heavy traffic almost causing a major collision on I-94 in Chicago, il. The main relay system had to be replaced. This is a major hazard, and Honda must be forced to look into this. This is the same car where the transmission had to be completely replaced within a year. Something must be done, for the safety of drivers and other vehicle drivers who may be involved in these vehicle failures.

The wires that connect to the fuel injectors appear to have their insulation melted away revealing the copper wire. Multiple injector wires are involved. The insulation is missing a third of the circumferance and about 17mm in length. I suspect excess engine heat has caused this defect. The defect was only spotted when the plastic engine cover was removed during in installation of a aftermarket cruise control device.
