CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.

The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

My 2000 Honda Accord SE start to developing a problem during the last sevreral months. When it is started first time in the morning after parked overnight, the throttle of the car feels stucked. I have to press the throttle really hard to get rid of the stuck, by doing so, the vehicle will accelarate absurdly because of the hard pressing on the throttle pedal(I.e., at first it is stucked, when you push the throttle pedal really hard, the throttle will get loose suddenly and the vehicle starts to accelerate absurdly)

On three separate occassions my car would not start. I had to make several attempts and eventually it would start but would not stay running unless I kept giving it gas. The service manager said the problem was caused by the winter fuel formula. This was causing a boiling of the fuel and a vapor lock condition. He also said Honda was aware that this was happening only in the V6 and they were working on a fix. To date I have not been notified by Honda or my dealer that a fix is available.
