CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.
The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.
Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

Backing out of the driveway, my car accelerated, skid on ice and hit a tree. I put it in drive but again the car went out of control. I could not control its speed, and braking was ineffective. It could not be stopped. I went through the back wall of our garage, causing great damage.
Car was placed in park. Motor suddenly revved with loud clanking sound and vehicle shot forward and hit tree. After collision, transmission shifted into reverse.
While driving down hill and having cruise control on vehicle will start to accelerate. Vehicle should not be accelerating when having cruise control on. Contacted dealer.
Vehicle accelerated from a complete stop at a traffic light, causing a collision. The engine raced and the brake became completely disengaged. The car took off like a bullet causing damage to both vehicles and landed me in apposing traffic. Thank god no-one was injured. Manufacturer found no defects or cause for malfunction.
Foot was applied to brakes while car was being shifted into reverse. Vehicle suddenly accelerated backward, crashing into a utility pole. Consumer then placed vehicle in drive, and it accelerated forward. Brakes were applied, but car would not stop. Consumer had to purposely crash vehicle into a fence in order for it to stop.
Consumer states while moving gear shift to drive, he/she experienced sudden acceleration, vehicle went airborn over a fence and hit a tree, the brakes would not work, so the consumer finally had to turn off the ignition, consumer states that the service dept couldn't find a problem.
While pulling into a parking space, the vehicle suddenly accelerated while my foot was on the brake. The enigne reved loudly, I was unable to stop the vehicle as the speed increased. The car surged over a median separating the parking space rows and struck two other cars in the row facing the row I was pulling into. My foot was on the brake the whole time, but the car kept accelerating. I contacted my dealer to see if there had been any similar reports. They reported none.
When braking or while stopping at stop light the engine races (rpms in red zone). Must slam on brakes and shift into park to prevent vehicle from surging into traffic. This has occurred on four separate occasions--the first in December and the most recent one week ago. The problem appears to be identical with those reported for this vehicle in ODI id 89408 and ODI id 882677. Can you advise how those problems were resolved. American Honda advised me that they had had no complaints similar to mine, which obviously is not correct.
Vehicle accelerated suddenly while the brakes were applied, resulting in a collision. Dealer has inspected vehicle, and could not duplicate or correct the problem.
Would be waiting at light. When engine would start to rev up while foot was on brakes, it would then take off. Needed to slam on brakes to prevent vehicle from moving. Been to dealership 5 times, but mechanic could not locate cause of problem.
While driving at approximately 68 mph on interstate with cruise control on, vehicle jerked to the right first, then a massive jerk to left. Vehicle performed a 360 degree turn, and went airborn. Vehicle ended up in median, and a police report was taken. Driver lost control for an unknown reason. Dealership didn't inform consumer of any reason that could have caused the defect. Consumer has been informed that vehicle was not included in any suspension related recall. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
