CarComplaints.com Notes: The 1999 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, engine shuts off while driving, & peeling paint. We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 100,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.

Engine stalling while driving in the 1999 Accord is typically caused by a defective ignition switch -- inexpensive to repair (under $200) but dangerous.

Peeling paint has also been an issue for these Accords. Most of the complaints are with darker paint colors -- especially green & blue.

The oxygen sensor has been replaced on the 1999 Honda Accord. The oxygen sensor has been replaced every two years since 2001. The tires have been replaced twice since the car was purchased new in 1999. The tires have dry rot and cracked on the sidewall. The tire have been rotated frequently and the tread is very good but the tires need to be replaced before they reach their mileage warranty (Michelin tires).

Had two (2) Goodyear assurance tires blow out approximately a month apart on my 1999 Honda Accord - highway driving...front tires, first the left and yesterday the right tire. Luckily no injuries. Wondered if there have been other complaints.

There were problems with the thermostat, brakes, engine light was intermittent, overheating, squealing while driving, the windshield molding at the upper left corner of the window, thumping noise while driving, maintenance light was inoperative, steering wheel vibrated, the ABS light was intermittent, and the tires were replaced early. Driver's front and rear and passenger's rear tire had blowouts. They were manufactured by Michelin. Angle of the construction of the windshield causes a glare for a couple of seconds which results in visual difficulty, and may cause a crash.

These tires flatten out like the old bias ply tires, and feel like you are driving on a washboard for the first couple of miles. This generally happens after the car sits for a couple of days. I have not experienced this with any other radial ever. I have owned at least 22 automobiles with various brands of radials, and have never had this happen.( dot number: Tire size: P195/65R15 )

When vehicle is facing down hill, and you put in reverse it goes forward.I spoke to the service advisor he said it was normal.I personally do not think its normal.I have an `89 Ford tempo as old as it is it does not roll downhill when in reverse and facing downhill.I have come close to hitting my garage door because of that. Also when putting in gear in any kind of land level it cracks and makes noises. Tires vibrate, front ones also on the highway it strays to the right a lot. I`ve checked air pressure on tires to make sure that did not cause the pulling to the right, and it was not that.air pressure is lost a lot also, every 2-3 weeks air in front tires goes down approximateley 4-6 pounds, and rears go down 2-3 puonds.I have to check air pressure on a weekly bases.( dot number: Tire size: P195/65R15 )
