1999 Honda Accord V-6, 90K miles. In July, 2005. I started noticing a whistling sound when the engine was on and the ABS and other dash lights would come on and off sporadically. During normal maintenance, I inquired about the noise and dash light problem. Nothing was found wrong. The dash lights have been coming on and off ever since. Today when the car was cranked, it made a louder than normal whistling sound. After driving if for 1/2 a mile the noise stopped. The next time I drove the car, it stopped accelerating and acted as though it was going to cut off. I parked it and attempted to crank it again but the battery was dead. After recharging the battery, it still could not accelerate. I had it towed to the Honda dealership. After inspection, I was told that the transmission would have to be replaced. After researching the internet, I realized that many others with 99 Accord have experienced the same problems. Considering this is the 3rd Honda I have purchased (the transmission had to be replaced on my 93 Honda also) it appears to be a problem that needs to be addressed.

I have read the emails of Honda with the same problem. Why is there no recall for the transmissions? I did everything according to Honda and now my beloved vehicle has failed me. I have been a true Honda person. This is my third Honda.

I am writing to express dissatisfaction with my 1999 Honda Accord ex V6, [xxx]. about a week ago my check engine light came on. I checked the code and it indicated torque converter clutch malfunction. The car was shifting and driving fine, so I brought it in to the Honda dealer to get the transmission fluid changed. I cleared the error, but it came right back on. The car was shifting and driving fine. Today on my way to work at 75 mph at highway speeds, it shifted in to second and stayed there. You can imagine what that did to rpms! now it won't go in to reverse or any other forward gear but second. I called my Honda dealer and they said I'm looking at a transmission replacement. $2950 just for the parts (doesn't include labor). That comes with a 36,000 mile warranty that I will easily use up in one year due to my long commute. Being that the car has 136,000 miles on it, I figured it was highly regrettable, but understandable. Until I started looking online! There are people on that post with 72,000 miles and three dealer replacements, some with six dealer replacements. My big worry now, after reading so many other experiences, is that I'll replace the transmission and be buying another $3000 transmission a year later. One day while driving down a busy 3 lane highway my Honda would not go forward any more. No matter how hard I pressed the gas it would no longer accelerate. I could put the car in neutral or reverse, but in drive I could not get it to go above 10 mph. I immediately recognized that it was the transmission and took it to a transmission place who told me Honda has an extended warranty for 98-2000 Accord under 100,000 miles, and they will replace your transmission. Since my car only had 80,000 miles, I called the service station, made an appointment and told them that it was the transmission. They told me okay, but there would be a $95 fee if it wasn't the transmission. They called me later that day, and said my VIN# didn't match the recall, so sorry. I called american Honda, and they said I should not have been given that information, and there was nothing they could do. I stated so what you are telling me is that in 98,99 & 00, you put bad transmissions in your Accord, I have a bad transmission in my Accord, but I'm not covered"?" to which they replied yes.

Honda Accord 99 V6 transmission failed, speed 10 mph while it's 6000 RPM, almost caused an accident, very dangerous, it's 2nd transmission. The 1st transmission failed at about 70K miles, and the 2nd failed at 82K.

I have had a transmission failure in my Honda Accord. When I took it to a mechanic in parkville, Missouri, he checked the transmission fluid and found it black. He flushed the transmission, put new fluid in, and changed a filter behind the glove compartment. He told me that Honda from 98 to 2002 had transmission problems. He told me to drive the car for a few days and see if that didn't fix it. I could tell as I drove home that it was not fixed. The mechanic said that a new transmission would cost 1,600 to 1,800 dollars. Since I have had to get a new engine in my Accord or my lemon, three new batteries, and now a new transmission and it is not already paid for because I leased it and am in the process of buying it, I need all the help I can get.

Transmission slips and will not go into gear. Only 55,000 miles on the vehicle and we strictly adhered to the maintenance schedules. Based on research on the web, this is quite common but Honda is not standing behind the transmission failures. Honda recognized the issues with the 2000-2003 Accord transmissions but failed to include the 1999's when their is obviously widespread problems with them.

The vehicle was parked in the driveway which is very steep. The consumers husband had come home and found the vehicle in the woods beside the driveway. The problem could not be duplicated. The emergency brake was engaged and the vehicle appeared to be in park. The consumer requested reimbursement for the deductible and the rental car expense. Also the key was able to be removed while the vehicle was in gear. Recall campaign# 05V025000.

Transmission failure - 1999 Accord ex in mint condition, perfect maintenance records and the transmission begins to fail, out of the blue, at 71,000 miles. The car shifts and lurches in 1st, 2nd and third gear. Also, noticable loss of overall power or torque in the cars performance. This is my third Accord and first automatic. Honda will only pay for part of the repair. I hope by writing this I help others with the same problem. I am being forced to negotiate the repair cost with the local Honda dealership. I am asking free parts, free labor and free rental car. They came back with a reduced cost of $1200 dollars and no mention of the rental car. I am really disappointed in Honda, I am a loyal customer and promoter of the brand name. I expect restution if they finally recall this position.

Auto transmission started shifting hard within the first year and now jerks abruptly between first & second gear. Reddell Honda (murfreesboro, tn) has examined the car and recommended a new transmission. The service advisor also did not recommend traveling due to the risk of being stranded. Accurate automotive's (lavergne, tn) gary gray, service advisor, stated that he has seen this problem alot with this car. I have an acquaintance with the same car (1998), who replaced the transmission year ago, only to have the beginnings of the problem again.

1999 Honda Accord transmission failure the transmission is hesitating at shift points and shifts harshly when finally shifts. I brought my car into my local dealer who determined the transmission is in need of replacement at a cost of $4280. I have since contacted Honda's customer service. They have agreed to cover the cost of the transmission but expect me to cover the cost of labor, totaling $863. In my research I have found that Honda motor Corp.has extended the warranties on five models of vehicles built from 2000 thru 2002 but not 1999 year.

Fax petition for NHTSA to reopen its investigation into the ignition interlock defects on 1999-2001 Honda Accord pursuant to 49 cfr 552.4 while parked the vehicle rolled backwards. This incident caused damage tot he vehicle. The manufacturer later issued a recall. The consumer contacted the manufacturer and was told that his vehicle was not included in the recall.
